My mother dropped me off at the airport, two hours early. I still had to get my ticket and check in. I had packed my clothes for a week and I hadn’t bought a return ticket. This way it didn’t matter if I stayed a little longer if I wanted to. She had only ever been at our house and this would be my first flight ever. I would be flying for a few hours so I had brought a few magazines and a book to keep myself busy. While walking into the plane I felt okay. When I had to buckle up for the departure, I was getting nervous. When the plane took off, I went into full panic. The stewardess had to come and get me out of hyperventilating. Not having the ground under my feet was a big no-no. Maybe I would have to take the train home, that would probably be better. After a while it got better, but I never calmed down, I felt very uncomfortable and had the urge to go back to the ground beneath me. Trying to keep myself busy, trying not to think about being so high up in the sky, I watched a movie, listened to music, read all my magazines and I was halfway through my book when the pilot spoke. I calmed down extremely, like suddenly I could breathe again, when he told us we were going to land soon. I sighed with so much relief, when the tires hit the pavement, that the woman next to me looked up surprised. I instantly felt relaxed and utterly calm. I went to grab my suitcase and backpack and they were practically the first to come up. I was in luck now we were on the ground again. Quickly I found Nana as well and she walked up to me with a powerful stride. We hugged, pleased to hold each other after so long and soon we were in her car, on our way to her house. I was driving, even though she is a strong woman, she had driven to the airport herself, so she had been a little tired. I had only been in a plane for a few hours, so I was glad at the concentration it required to drive.

‘How was your flight?’ she asked me.

‘Well.. I realised I really didn’t ever want to do it again. I’ll be traveling back by train,’ I said.

‘As long as you don’t drive the long way on your own, you never know what’ll happen.’

She was always very protective, I was happy with it, but wish she would be able to let it go a little bit. I was perfectly capable of driving to her, I would just be forced to sleep in a motel for a night or two.

‘So how have you been doing?’ Nana asked, when I was silent for a moment.

‘I’ve been looking for a proper job the past weeks, but I only found that cleaning job and that was a one time thing. Luckily it gave me the opportunity to come visit you!’ I said shooting her a smile.

We chatted a little on the forty minute drive and she gave me directions. I pulled up her driveway some time later and I brought my suitcase and backpack inside. Nana carried my handbag.

Nana grabbed my hand, giving me a quick tour of the living room, kitchen and dining room, downstairs. Then she shoved me up the stairs, her house was huge, mostly because my grandfather had been rich when he passed away. So my Nana was living in a secluded, large house about 300 feet from a forest. The house was on the edge of a small town. I must say I loved it there. She showed me my room, it was next to hers and I had a private bathroom adjoining my bedroom. I put my bags on the bed and only took my handbag back down with me. Nana was quite an active woman, she would do sports a few times a week at a local gym and she was sturdy, unbreakable.

‘Have you had any dinner in that plane?’ she asked, just as we were sitting down in the living room.

‘No, I haven’t had dinner yet,’ I said, looking at the clock.

It was eight o’clock already, I felt this had been a useless day after so many days of helping the wolves. Nana was busy warming a can of soup for me and gave me a loving smile. I had moved to the kitchen table and soon she put a large bowl of soup in front of me, with three cheese sandwiches.

‘Thank you,’ I said, digging in.

While I was eating, Nana called my mother telling me I arrived safely and was enjoying a nice cup of soup. After dinner, we sat in the living room, watching the news and some old show Nana liked. I went to bed a little past nine, I was just so tired and hadn’t even realised it until my stomach had been full and I was sitting in the soft, fluffy couch. I went to bed and soon I fell asleep.
