Again I woke up with nightmares, but I didn’t feel as horrible as I usually did. I went into my shower, hardly needing to hop on one leg, the wound had almost closed. I discarded my pajamas and looked at my back in the mirror. I ripped the bandages off and saw that the wounds had fully healed. I ripped the bandages on my leg as well, they had almost closed and needed no new bandages. I washed some old blood off and got dressed. I put on my skintight jeans, I only had the one, it made me look a little taller than I was. I also put on a V-neck shirt with the Metallica logo on the front. I was glad I had taken my high heels, I put them on as well, but when I started walking I realised this wasn’t going to work. A little sad, I changed them for my black ballerinas, like that I at least could walk. I went down to my Nana, but she was still in bed. I grabbed a pan from the cabinet and went to bake eggs and put the plates on the table. When I heard a stumble up the stairs, I cooked the water to make tea.

‘Oh dear, I could have done all that,’ Nana said when she entered the kitchen.

I was just making tea for her and had just put down the eggs. I took a glass of milk for myself.

‘Dawn, I will have to go away for an hour or two this afternoon, will you be okay?’ she asked me.

‘Yes, off course Nana, I’ll go into town and see if I can do something fun,’ I answered, happy I wouldn’t have to lie to her.

‘I’m happy my dear, you should go out and meet some new friends,’ she said, smiling at me.

We ate the rest of our breakfast in silence and enjoying each others company.

Just past one o’clock she left and promised to return before dinner, with dinner. When she had driven away from the house, I went up to my room to check on my clothing one more time. It was August, so I didn’t need a sweater or jacket. I walked up to the window once more, remembering how he had come into the room slowly. I let my hands stroke the windowsill when I felt a piece of paper. It was a card with a phone number and his name. Christopher. It didn’t have a time on it, just a cellphone number, I entered it into my phone and sent him a message.

I found your number.

Nana left, now on my

way to town. Where will

we meet?

Muffin

I smiled and put the phone in my handbag, just like my wallet and the key to the house Nana had given me. I didn’t have a car here, but I didn’t mind. I liked walking and it wasn’t very far. When the first stores came into view my phone beeped. A new text.

I’ll find you, Muffin.

See you soon.

C.J.

Christopher James, it was such a good name. He would find me, I knew he would, he could smell me, like I smelled him. A perfect cinnamon and vanilla scent, which was divine. I felt him, I knew he had to be close. I could feel his presence and now I started paying attention and I smelled him too. It became stronger and suddenly I knew he was behind me.

‘Hi.. Muffin,’ he whispered into my ear from behind.

‘Hi..’ I whispered back, not yet knowing a nickname for him.

‘Have you slept well?’ he asked, turning me, so I was facing him.

‘Yes..’ I lied.

‘You don’t have to lie, I can see you aren’t telling me the truth,’ he said, he wasn’t angry.

‘Sorry, I..’

‘Don’t be. Come lets have some lunch,’ he said, walking around me.

I followed him, tingles rushing through me. Now I was walking behind him, I could see his muscular shoulders and broad back. I felt so small next to him, being very petite myself. We entered a nice looking cafe where he immediately sat down at one of the tables and I hurried myself to sit across him. A woman came to us.

‘Good afternoon, sir, would you like to have a drink?’ she asked Christopher, fawning over him a bit.

I was staring up at her, jealous. Why was I jealous, I had only seen this guy twice. I looked at my side of the table and waited for him to flirt back.

‘Muffin, what would you like?’ he asked.. me.

‘I would like some tea, please,’ I said, looking up at him.

‘I’ll have some coffee, please,’ he said, staring at me.

The woman walked away, huffing a little. We both heard it and Christopher chuckled.

‘Please tell me, about yourself?’ he asked, still staring me in the eyes.

‘What would you like to know?’

‘Everything!’

I gently bit my lip and as I did, I saw him gasp for air.

‘I.. ehm.. I’m twenty three, turning twenty four in December. I’ve been raised by my foster parents, humans. Nana is human too, but you knew that. I’ve only changed for the first time a few weeks ago.’

I halted my story when the woman came to bring us our drinks and wanted to know if we wanted something to eat as well. Christopher ordered a plate with three different sandwiches, so I ordered the same. The woman left and I continued.

‘I changed, only because I was attacked by a vampire. I didn’t know any of this world,’ I told him.

‘You survived?’ he asked.

‘Apparently,’ I chuckled, he joined me.

‘A nearby pack had weakened him, they scared him off, he is still wreaking havoc in my old town, I think. We haven’t heard anything new on the news. The Alpha made me meet him, he saw the truth in my eyes and told me the basics and when the vampire started to become a problem he taught me to fight, but I already knew how to,’ I muttered the last part.

‘Why would a beautiful girl like you know how to fight?’ he asked, shocked.

‘I was a very rebellious girl, no one understood my voice, which I now know is my wolf. She has grown more silent over the years, but I cherish her company in my head. I would be in fights, which made sure I know where to hit for serious damage. I mellowed out when I got out of puberty. I also met with Alpha Clark, he was kind after I could tell him my story, let me roam his lands because I’m only here for..’

The thought of leaving repulsed me, I didn’t want to leave in a few days.

‘What is it? Please tell me?’ he asked.

The woman put my bread before me, but I wasn’t hungry anymore.

‘I promised my mother I would be here for a week, maybe a little more. It’s been four days now. I don’t..’

He looked at me with sad eyes, but tried to send me a smile. My lip started to quiver, how could I be this attached to a man I was only seeing for the third time? I didn’t want to leave, I couldn’t. It would rip my heart apart.

‘You could stay?’ he asked. ‘Do you have a job to return to? A boyfriend?’

‘No boyfriend, never! I was still looking for a job,’ I said, he couldn’t suppress a smile.

‘You must have a girlfriend though,’ I said, pained.

‘No. I never had, I was waiting for my mate, every step of the way,’ he said, the truth was in his eyes.

‘Please eat something,’ he said, grabbing one of his sandwiches.

I followed his example and we ate, chatting about simple stuff, he even asked me what my favorite colour and food was.
