Three hours later, we were still sitting in the little cafe, drinking soda, chatting away.

‘What is your favorite smell?’ he asked me.

‘I’m really fond of cinnamon,’ I whispered, my face starting to blush.

‘I love the smell of cupcakes and honey,’ he said, smiling at me.

‘Why?’ I asked.

‘Because that’s your scent, how do I smell to you?’ he asked, his eyes filled with boyish curiosity.

‘Ehm.. you smell like.. cinnamon and vanilla,’ I said, my face now flushing beet red.

He chuckled.

‘Would you like me to show you our packhouse?’ he asked, suddenly.

‘Won’t.. but.. I’m.. I’m a rogue,’ I stuttered.

‘No. You are my mate!’ he said firmly.

He got to his feet and went to pay at the counter, I grabbed my handbag and went to him.

‘Won’t they hate me?’ I whispered.

‘Then they’ll have to answer to me,’ he said wrapping his arm around my waist.

It felt so safe and warm in his embrace.

He took me outside and we walked across town, our hands intertwined. He took me to his car and let me get into the passenger seat.

‘I will have to be home for dinner,’ I said, he nodded.

He drove off and I bit my lip, meeting the pack already, it went so fast. We drove into the forest and he pulled up to a huge house. I got out of the car and went to meet him in front of the car, he grabbed my hand again and we stepped into the house. In the living room there were a lot of people, everyone was staring at me and I felt very uncomfortable.

‘Dawn, my dear, this is my pack. That’s Daniel, my Beta and his mate Kayleigh,’ he said, pointing at two people in the room.

He didn’t introduce anyone else yet, but he took me to the kitchen. An older woman was sitting there, eating a sandwich. She had his amber eyes and his dark blonde hair.

‘Dawn, this is my mother, Angel. Mom. I’d like you to meet my mate,’ he said.

His eyes were gleaming with pride and joy.

‘Hi Dawn,’ she said, smiling at me sweetly.

I liked her already, but she seemed sad. She looked like she had been crying for months already.

‘Are you okay, ma’am?’ I asked, a little worried.

‘Oh, you are kind to ask my dear. Christopher’s father has died a few months ago,’ she explained.

I thought of losing Christopher and straight away tears formed in my eyes. It would tear me apart, they had been together for such a long time and now she didn’t have him anymore. Without thinking, I stepped forward and put my arms around her. Her tears wet my t-shirt, but I didn’t care. She needed someone to comfort her.

‘Oh, Dawn. I’m glad it’ll be a kind woman to be a Luna to this pack,’ she muttered into my shoulder.

I looked around to Christopher, I hadn’t realised, since he was an Alpha, that I would instantly become a Luna, once we mated. He had tears in his eyes, at the sight of me comforting his mother.

‘Muffin, it’s time to bring you back to your grandmother,’ he said, I heard the pain in his voice for having to leave me.

‘I hope to see you soon, miss James,’ I said, patting her on the back.

‘Please, call me Angel,’ she offered. ‘We’ll see you soon.’

While we were driving back towards town, I asked him to tell me something about himself.

‘Well, my name is Christopher, I’m twentyeight years old. I have no siblings, my father was killed by a vampire and my mother is heartbroken. I’ve studied, mainly my Alpha duties and I love my pack and allready care deeply for my Muffin,’ he said.

‘I care for you too, I.. I don’t want to live without you,’ I whispered.

We just pulled in my grandmother’s driveway, her car was already there. She came out of the house, with a huge grin on her face. We both got out of the car and were greeted by my grandmother.

‘Dawn, how lovely, you brought a friend! Will he be staying for dinner? I have plenty!’ she said, excited.

‘If he would like to,’ I muttered, not really wanting him to leave.

‘I would love to miss,’ he said.

‘Oh, just call me Nana, everyone does!’ she said, smiling at him.

‘Thank you Nana, my name is Christopher,’ he said.

‘That’s a pretty name,’ she said, while walking inside.

Christopher seemed to have realised my Nana couldn’t yet know about our deep connection. He didn’t grab my hand or waist, but I yearned for his touch. We went after my grandmother and Nana sat us down in the kitchen at the table. She had made a big lasagna and plated up very much for me and Christopher. He grabbed his phone and sent a message, I couldn’t see to who.

‘So, what do you do? Christopher?’ Nana asked,

He answered that he was CEO of a big company and that he made a lot of money every year. I didn’t know Alpha’s made money, but I detected no lie about the money. I did notice he lied about being a CEO. Nana asked more and more questions, giving me a chance to get to know him as well. I loved her asking such irrelevant questions, I could learn everything about him. After dinner, Nana retreated to her bedroom, leaving us in the living room.

‘I will have to go home soon, I need to work some things through,’ he said.

‘Aren’t you in violation, being here. I believed this was Clark territory?’ I asked, the question just popped into my head.

‘No, he and I have a good friendship, we can cross into each other’s packs,’ he said.

‘When do you have to leave?’ I asked, a little sad he would have to go.

‘In a minute or two,’ he whispered.

‘Oh,’ I said, I was sad.

‘I could come back tonight?’ he whispered.

I nodded and grabbed his hand, that was on his lap. I played with his fingers, while biting my lower lip. I heard him gasp for air.

‘What? What’s wrong?’ I asked, a little worried.

‘Sorry. Nothing is wrong. You were biting.. it looked.. never mind,’ he said, blushing a little.

‘We’ll see each other tonight, goodnight my Muffin,’ he said, pulling me into a hug.

‘Goodnight CJ,’ I whispered.

He left and I waved him off at the door, feeling cold now he left.

‘What a nice man he was,’ Nana said when she met me at the door.

‘Yes, he’s very kind,’ I sigh.

‘I think you’re falling for him. Did you see him before today?’ she asked, smiling.

She was so happy for me, she had always been a romantic, hoping I would be getting a boyfriend.

‘I met him yesterday on my run.’

‘You should stay longer, see if you can become even closer,’ she said.

I had played with that thought too that day. We went to watch a little television before bed and Nana brushed my hair out, putting in a new braid and bun. That was the only way Christopher had seen it, mostly because it looked pretty on me and it kept all that hair from my face. We sat down in the living room, watching something useless on television. Nana went to bed around ten, like she usually did, I stayed up a little later, half past ten, I went upstairs and opened the window a little bit. I snuggled into my bed and waited. After twelve he still hadn’t shown himself and I was getting tired. My eyes drooped down and a few minutes later I was sound asleep.
