Jaws tearing at me, teeth coming so close to my face. Seeing wolves being ripped apart by others, by me. I woke up startled, scared. I took a shower before seeing if my Nana would be awake. When I got downstairs, fully dressed, it was empty. She was still sleeping, but when I checked the time, that wasn’t surprising, it was five in the morning. Deep down inside my wolf was begging me to come out and play for a moment. I promised her we could run a few times in the woods nearby. I didn’t want Nana to wake up and not find me at the house. I went to watch a little tv and soon she was downstairs fixing us breakfast.
‘Good morning dear, would you like a cup of tea?’ she asked.
‘Yes please,’ I said, joining her in the kitchen.
We ate breakfast at the kitchen table and after that Nana wanted to get some groceries for the next week. I drove us to a village up the main road, according to my Nana it was cheaper than the store in her town. Inside the store, Nana went straight for the sweets and saltines, while she sent me to get some bottles of soda or juice. I was standing there when I smelt something, it made me stand on edge. Most humans smelled the same, but this was different. A woman came up to me and immediately I knew she was a wolf, she was glaring and hissing at me.
‘Explain yourself! Rogue!’
‘I am visiting my grandmother. I am not a volunteer rogue,’ I gave her the short explanation.
‘Tonight, after ten, you will meet us, follow my scent in the woods!’ she said, still glaring at me. ‘If you fail to do so, it will have repercussions.’
She walked away with her head held high, I was almost entirely sure I had just spoken to the Beta’s mate, she had been powerful, but not as powerful as an Alpha or a Beta. My grandmother came to me and I quickly plastered on a smile and tried to shake the whole thing off. When we got home, I told my grandmother I would like to run a little that evening, covering for myself. She knew I loved jogging, so she agreed. We didn’t do much that day, we talked for hours though. She asked me so many questions, mainly about my relationship status, which was nonexistent.
Around seven o’clock, we ate dinner, which we made together and just before eight I went out the door. I needed to be alone before my meeting, probably with the Alpha of her pack. I didn’t run, if it would come to a fight, I might need my agility and being tired that would be lessened severely. After some time I smelled the woman again, I walked towards the smell in human form, knowing I wouldn’t be able to speak if I wasn’t. Half an hour later, I arrived at an opening in the woods, moonlight shone on three wolves and three people. I walked over, but keeping a distance between us. I got to one knee and submitted at the man who was clearly the Alpha, he gave out so much power, I didn’t even doubt it. Two of the wolves jumped up and grabbed either side of my neck.
‘Rogue, why are you here!’ he demanded.
‘Alpha, I am here visiting my grandmother,’ I say, not looking up, but looking at his feet.
‘Why did you tell Rebecca you didn’t volunteered to be a rogue, I know no other way!’ he said, I could feel his eyes burning a hole in my head. ‘And look at me while you speak, I need to see if you are lying.’
I turned my head up to meet his eyes, could he really see if I was lying? I had no reason to lie.
‘I am here to visit my grandmother. I know you cannot see a lie, because I never lie. I am not a volunteer rogue, because my parents left me at a church, I’ve been brought up by humans and only know I’m a wolf for two weeks, when a vampire crossed my path. I know most rogues are killed, but I will try and find my mate, I do not like to harm people or wolves,’ I promised.
‘I believe her, she will not be killed,’ the Alpha said to the wolves
They let go of my neck and he directed his attention to me.
‘My name is Alpha Clark.’
‘Thank you, Sir. C.. Can I ask you a question?’ I said, he nodded immediately.
‘Could I ask your permission to roam the woods a little, I need to run sometimes,’ I mumbled.
‘Not all of the woods are ours, but you can run in our part as long as you don’t come near the packhouse,’ he said.
‘Thank you, Sir.’
The wolves jumped up and ran away, so did the Alpha, the woman and man who had been with him. I knew I had been extremely lucky, other packs would kill rogues on sight. I pulled off my sweatpants and my loose shirt, I tied them around my leg and shifted. I ran for about half an hour before I headed back to Nana’s house.
Unknown POV.
A smell entered my nose, it was heavenly, so sweet. My heart started to pound, I needed to find the scent, I needed to go to her. Her scent went into the Clark territory, I didn’t want to cross it without permission, so I had to let the scent go. I stayed in that place for as long as I could, to savour the sweet smell of honey and cupcakes! She smelled divine!
