The next day I woke up groggy, my throat hurt. I remembered the day before and put my hand to my face. Did that really happen? I looked into the bag on the ground and found the long white t-shirt and the card. I went into my bathroom and washed my face, brushed my teeth and brushed my hair, which fell to my waist. I got dressed and put a strand of hair behind my ear and went downstairs, taking my bag with me. I got an apple from the fruitbowl and told Rhea I had to go do something. David wasn’t home much, he worked from eight until five thirty, so we only saw him at night and in the weekends. I walked out the back door and got into my car. I had a navigator on my phone and set it for the address on the back of the card. It led me all the way to the other side of town, where I was led out of town and into the forest, there was a place we could drive into the woods. I parked the car where my navigation told me my destination was. I got out and locked the vehicle.

‘Smell,’ my little voice told me.

I did as she said and I found a distinct smell, I couldn’t place it, but it was definitely there. I followed the scent and soon it became stronger and a house came into view. I knocked firmly on the door. I had set myself to act like it would be a job interview. A blonde boy came to open the door and he looked at me with a disgusted glance. He led me towards the office of mister Price, where, again, I knocked firmly.

‘Enter!’ he boomed.

I opened the door, to see him sit behind a large wooden desk, he pointed at the chair across from him and I took a seat.

‘Thank you,’ I said.

‘What is your name?’ he asked.

‘Dawn Matthews, sir,’ I said, giving him back the t-shirt.

‘Miss Matthews, I will teach you about being a wolf in the next couple of days. Do make sure you understand, you will NOT be a member of my pack, unless you find your mate here,’ he bellowed.

I bowed my head, feeling the need to lay down on the floor, but I restrained myself. Not looking up, I nodded my head, but I didn’t understand completely.

‘Speak,’ he said suddenly.

‘Sir, I do not know what you mean by.. mate..’

He sighed.

‘Your mate is like a soulmate, but so much more. He will make you feel like nothing else exists but you and him, you’ll want to be with him every second of the day. You only have the one, there will be no one else for you. He fits with you like a glove and will love and protect you forever. When you find each other, he’ll have to mark you, by inserting his canines into your neck. This will make the bound stronger...’

I made gentle movements to try and make him take a break, this was a lot to take in already.

‘Do you mean, he.. bites me?’ I ask, a little shocked.

‘Yes, but that isn’t what binds your mating and your full acceptance into his pack. You will be fully mated after coi.. inter..’ he sighs. ‘Sex.’

My eyes shoot wide open, I wanted to let this subject go.

‘How will I know?’ I mutter, blushing beet red.

‘You will, trust me. The moment you first see, smell or hear him, you will know.’

‘Okay. Will all your.. ehm.. members.. hate me as much as the blonde guy?’ I asked, remembering how disgusted he had looked at me.

‘Yes, but I told them to accept you as a guest for the time being.’

‘Why do they hate me? I haven’t done anything to them?’ I asked.

‘You are a rogue, they can smell it on you. I have only told my confidante that you haven’t chosen this life. Which brings up another good subject to talk about. Ranking in a pack is easy. You are either an Alpha, that’s me, a Beta, who is an Alpha’s second in command or you are a plain wolf. If a female mates with an Alpha, she will be called a Luna and she will have equal the power as her mate. Also the Beta’s mate, will have a lot of power inside the pack, but less as her mate.’

I nodded, making a mental note of everything he told me.

‘Don’t worry, I’ll remember it too,’ my voice said.

‘The voice in my head, who is she. Why can she fight with me, if she is me, shouldn’t I agree with myself?’ I asked.

‘The voice is your wolf, she might not always agree, her instinct is wolf and only wolf. You are the same person, but she will help guide you in decisions and will only take over if she will be driven over the edge with anger.’

‘When will I change again? With full moon or something?’ I asked.

‘No, you can change whenever you want or need to.’

We talked for hours, he told me how I could use my senses and taught me where to attack when another wolf attacked me and told me I should run the next time I encounter a vampire on my own.

‘Now I’ll turn around. You discard your shirt and jeans, think of being your wolf and you will become her,’ he said, turning around.

He was so serious that shakily I did as he told me and concentrated on becoming a wolf when pain overwhelmed me again. I cried and cried, but my cries turned into howling. Alpha Price turned and showed me a mirror against the wall, he must have coaxed more wolves into this. I gazed at my thick black fur, my blue eyes. Obviously I was a female, according to Alpha Price we were always smaller than males. He turned away again and let me change back and into my clothes.

‘I am dressed,’ I whispered a little ashamed.

He turned back to me and gave me a nod.

‘You did very well. I have told you everything I can. If you have questions, you are welcome to call me, my number is on the card. Other than on my invitation, do not come into our grounds. My wolves won’t know and might shred you to bits,’ he told me.

I nodded, a little scared by the threat, but I felt he told me for my own well being.

‘Thank you, sir,’ I told him.

‘You are welcome, take care of yourself,’ he said, pointing at the door, my cue to leave.
