The next day, everything felt better. My wound had closed, most wolves that had been injured were feeling better as well. Alpha Clark came by, telling us he had lost only three wolves and the other pack had lost five. I knew we had lost three as well, one of them who had lost his mate years ago and two of them hadn’t even met their mate yet. I really felt sorry for those women, they would never be able to find the love I shared with Christopher. I felt sorry for them, even though I didn’t even know them. Christopher stayed with me the entire day, he hardly let go of my hand.

‘Are you okay?’ I asked him just after lunch.

‘Yes, why?’ he asked back, with a small smile on his lips.

‘You keep holding my hand, I’m scared you aren’t feeling well,’ I admitted.

‘It’s not that, Muffin. I’m just worried. I need to tell you something and I’m a little scared of your reaction.’

‘What is it? You can tell me everything, honey,’ I told him.

‘My dear Muffin, I heard the Price pack has been eliminated entirely,’ he whispered.

I looked at him with wide eyes. That was the pack I had helped, fighting against other wolves.

‘Who?’ I asked.

My lip started to quiver, I had grown attached to Alpha Price, to know he hadn’t survived an attack felt horrible.

‘The vampires, I didn’t want to tell you yesterday, but we killed most of them,’ he explained.

Usually I would have been mad at anyone to withhold this kind of information, but now I needed his comfort, I plummeted into his arms and cried.

‘I liked Alpha Price, he’s taught me so much..’ I whispered.

‘I know Muffin, I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.’

‘I’m not mad about it yet, but don’t bring it up again,’ I said into his chest.

He stroked my hair, calming me down. Kissing me on the top of my head.

‘I think I’ll go to bed for a bit, I want to sleep a little,’ I said.

‘Okay honey, call for me if you need anything. Use that pretty little head of yours,’ he said, kissing my forehead.

‘I’m sorry I forgot again,’ I whispered.

He gave me a chaste kiss on the lips and I left for our bedroom. It didn’t take long for me to fall asleep, but nightmares made it a short sleep.

When I woke, I called my Nana and my parents, they didn’t know anything had happened. I spoke with each of them for more than an hour. When I hung up, I remembered something. I jumped up from the bed, changing from my nightgown to my normal clothes. I walked over to Christopher’s office. He had promised me several times, I could just walk in, I would never have to knock. This was the first time, I actually didn’t knock.

‘What is.. Oh, Dawn, it’s you,’ he went from angry to pleased in a second.

‘Sorry, if you’d like me to knock..’ I gently knocked on the door.

‘No, darling, please come in, I’m just having a meeting with Alpha Clark,’ he said.

The other Alpha turned in his seat, offering me a kind smile.

‘Good afternoon, Alpha Clark. My thing can wait..’ I muttered, wanting to step back.

‘No Muffin, you can stay,’ he said.

I sat down next to him on a chair he had put there especially for me. I didn’t really listen to their subjects, they were mostly talking about defences and working together so they would need less manpower to guard our territories. I counted on Christopher to take the right decisions about those subjects.

‘Muffin, what did you want to tell me? We’re about to go for a run around the perimeter to check if everyone is doing okay on their rounds,’ he told me.

‘Who was Alpha Matthews?’ I asked, I didn’t mind Alpha Clark being here.

‘I don’t know, honey,’ Christopher said.

‘That was the Alpha of a pack a few states away, I heard they were killed twenty or so years ago,’ Alpha Clark informed us.

‘Was he your father?’ Christopher asked.

‘I believe so. My parents only ever gotten one letter with two words written on it. Dawn Matthews,’ I said.

‘Well, how did you know he was an Alpha?’ Clark asked me.

‘Because the vampire that got me from this house, said he destroyed the entire pack and that I was Alpha Matthew’s “spawn”, but since he was holding my neck at the moment, I didn’t realise,’ I told them.

‘I’m very sorry. It does explain your marvelous Luna-tone,’ he said, offering me a smile.

‘Don’t be sorry. Somewhere I’m glad I know now. I would have been very angry if they were still alive and left me for no reason, but I’m very sad for the loss of a pack,’ I said.

I had never formed a bond with them, so I didn’t really know if I should feel worse.

‘We need to do our rounds now, would you check on my mother for me?’ Christopher asked me.

I nodded.

While they ran away, I went to Angels bedroom. She let me in after one knock, I went to her and sat down on her bed.

‘Hi, how are you doing?’ I asked her.

I saw her eyes were puffy and red, when she turned around

‘Have you been crying?’ I asked her worried.

‘Yes, my darling. I’ve been crying. I miss my mate so much, I’ve been happier since you came into our pack, but most of the women avoid me,’ she said.

I knew what she was talking about, I only knew Kayleigh’s name, other than that, most women just left me alone.

‘Will it ever become better?’ she asked me, tears streaming down her face. ‘Because I don’t see any point in living now my baby boy is all grown up.’

‘Oh, please don’t say that? You will have to be double the grandmother when I birth my babies. My mother won’t be able to be here all that time, I will be counting on you,’ I promised her.

‘Are you pregnant my dear?’ she asked, hopefull.

‘Not yet, but I do look forward to the day I will hold my first baby and I would like him or her to know that you are the grandmother that made their daddy,’ I told her.

She hugged me.

‘I will live for that, thank you my dear,’ she told me.

‘Would you really have killed yourself?’ I asked her, afraid of the answer.

‘I have been contemplating the idea, since before your arrival,’ she told me, with sad eyes.

‘Please don’t, don’t ever think like that. Everyone in this pack loves you, they just have a funny way of showing it,’ I tell her.

‘Maybe you’re right dear. Will you help me go downstairs, this room is depressing me,’ she said.

‘Off course,’ I said.

I helped her out of the bed, she got dressed and we went down together. In the kitchen, I sat her down on a chair while I worked on the dishes and started making dinner for everyone. While I was working, I started singing, I liked to sing when I was busy, it would help me keep my mind off things. Soon I heard Angel hum the tune to my song. Just before I finished dinner, Christopher and Daniel entered the kitchen, laughing and having fun together. I didn’t tell Christopher about his mother, we ate with all the pack and some of them came with us to watch a movie in the living room.

I really hope you all are still enjoying my story a lot! I hope you will let me know what you think!

I dedicate this chapter to Ayame, she's a great friend and she deserves it ;)
