Dawn 'till Dusk

Part 32 - Blue Velvet

The small blue velvet box, took my breath away. I was glued on the spot, about four feet from our table. Christopher picked up the small box with care and sat down on one knee. Tears already started to form in my eyes, damn raging hormones.

‘My dear dear Dawn, even though we’ve only been together for a few months, I love you more than anyone in this world. You are the most beautiful creature I have ever laid my eyes upon and I would love for you to accept my proposal. You will always be my love, my best friend and my companion, will you please do me the greatest honor and marry me?’

Tears were streaming down my face, my head was tied up in knots. Not of doubt, but he had surprised me so much that I felt like I was going into shock.

‘Dawn? Muffin?’ he whispered.

‘Come on love, say yes!’ an old woman behind me said.

I smiled faintly, a smell entered my nose and I felt a sharp pain near my collar bone, a red flash passed me by and I fell to the ground.

‘Vampire,’ I muttered to Christopher in his mind.

‘Darling, please. What happened? Can I help?’ he asked, pulling me into his grasp.

A burning sensation raged through my shoulder.

‘I can’t do anything and the vampire wouldn’t try anything with all these people here, are you okay?’ he asked.

I slowly got up a little, still feeling faint, I shed one of the sleeves of my dress, showing a shallow cut, it burned. It wasn’t big, but it burned.

‘It’s burning,’ I whispered to him, my face contorted in pain.

More people were crowding us, trying to see what was wrong with me.

‘Wolfsbane,’ I heard Christopher say to Kayleigh, Daniel and myself.

Kayleigh came running into the restaurant and tried to lift me up, but my body wouldn’t give. Christopher lifted me up and Kayleigh payed for our food. They brought me to Daniel’s truck and put me in the back, Christopher hovered over me and started to suck on my wound.

‘Aaaaaahhh!! What are you doing?’ I yelled in agony.

‘He’s trying to suck the poison out of you before it takes over your bloodstream, it could hurt and even kill you and your baby.

Daniel came to us and gave me something to drink, Christopher helped me up and I drank the foul tasting liquid.

‘We have to get you home!’ Kayleigh said.

Christopher grabbed me again and I felt myself lose consciousness.

When I woke up, I was laying in our infirmary. Our doctor was hovering over me, looking at my wound.

‘Is my baby okay?’ I croaked, it felt like I hadn’t drank anything in two weeks.

‘Yes, Christopher was quick with sucking the poison out and you are very lucky we all have anti wolfsbane in our car.

‘Where is Chris..’ I croaked again, looking around us.

‘The Beta finally convinced him to find the person responsible, he hadn’t left you out of his sight until an hour ago.’

‘Water? Please,’ I whispered, my throat felt like sandpaper.

The doctor immediately poured me a glass of ice cold water and handed it over. The delicious fluid ran down my raspy throat and it tasted divine.

‘Thank you,’ I said, my voice sounding more like my own. ‘How long have I been unconscious?’

‘A day, that’s the potion, there is a sedative in it, because it hurts a lot when wolfsbane still has to leave your body.’
