~ Chapter Six ~
••Harry••
The wind was cold. It's swift movement hurt my cheeks; burning them to a raw, red skin. The bones in my body had frozen, their sharp movements had dwindled to a slow, paced walk. Water streamed down my face, my eyes emptying themselves of liquid. The blood that moved so smoothly around my body was no longer warm, instantly freezing me. Everything about the weather was negative; even the leaves on the trees knew. They protested against moving in time with the air, I almost felt sorry for them. Almost. (I was making them feel that way.) At least they know my pain, at least they know what I go through just waiting for her. Goosebumps had now appeared on my skin and I knew that if I stayed up here any longer I would become an ice ball.
"How long do we have to be up here?" Louis raised his eyebrows at the whine in my tone.
"Until Liam gets back, he hasn't had anything to drink in a while and you know how careful he is..." I sighed. A mountain top, in this weather is no place for any one- even someone like me. My head was swirling with thoughts and dreams of Megan, wishing she was here with me, but knowing she never would be. I was torn in two.
"Why are you being so negative, Harry?" Niall was curled up in a ball, his nose now completely red. I smiled slightly, it was an odd sight.
"I'm sorry... I'm just-"
"Just what?" Louis looked up from the stick he was carving.
"Goodness me, Louis, let me finish the damn sentence!" He rolled his eyes as a clap of thunder echoed in the clouds.
"I don't really know how I'm feeling. I'm confused- hense the reason why there are clouds full of snow but they don't burst, why there are thunder claps but no lightening, hail or rain but no clouds. But I'm afraid of the future which is why it's all wintery weather and I apologise." Niall sat up and looked at me with sad eyes. He knows more about me than I give him credit for.
"I'm sorry, bro." I nodded, disallowing the tears to fall. I couldn't be weak, because then the trees would fall- like Robin said on the phone. I was weak but I was alone and confused. I felt so mixed up, it's hurt my heart.
"Here he is, finally!" Zayn's sarcasm caused a slight chuckle to escape all of our mouths as Liam bounced up the mountain side, his lips stained slightly red.
"Have a nice meal then I take it, Mr Slowcoach?" Again Zayn over pronounced 'Mr Slowcoah' reminding me of a four year old.
"Shut up, Zayn. But now we've eaten we need to seriously talk. Louis and I had an idea as to why Harry is upset-"
"Yeah, we gathered that." Niall interrupted earning a glare from Liam.
"As I was saying, Louis found the newspaper, Harry. What does this mean?" He looked at me. In fact they all did, but only Liam had stern eyes. I wanted to tell them. I did. But I can't. I can't let them get involved- I need to get over this by myself. I can't let it happen, the ending wasn't any more positive than the way I'm feeling right now.
"I don't know, but it's no big deal. Is it?" I knew asking the question would open the conversation to everyone.
Louis glanced at Liam.
"Yes. It really is. Something is happening and I know you know what it is. We all do," He sighed as did Zayn. I didn't want this to happen, I didn't want them to find out, I didn't want her to become part of my life any more then she is now.
"Louis, I can't. I don't want her to get involved- I've read her diary. She doesn't care about anyone but her stupid friend, Georgia, I've read what she does. She doesn't care about anyone or anything. How can she be the one?" My voice was strained yet the fear that should have been laced with those words wasn't there. My voice stayed as morbid as usual.
"Because it's written down. Look, the girl we've heard about is the same. She hated the world- much like Megan- but the boy changed her; like you will. He had an obsession that turned into un-denying love within a few weeks. How do we know that she isn't the one?"
I'm sorry Megan. I'm sorry this is how it ends. I'm sorry you've been dragged into something you don't even know about. I'm sorry if you hate me, but it was meant to be. It's my destiny.
"Ok, ok. I think we've established that Harry has found the girl in the book, but how do we know that they can't change it. They can re-write it?" Niall said the last sentence like a question so I pondered. Can you change the future?
"Indeed, but we can't change it unless they make contact." Zayn and Louis both sniggered causing Liam to roll his eyes. "The first part of the book cannot be changed, otherwise there would be no book therefore Harry would not be here."
"Then we have to save her." I surprised myself in saying, my tone calm although my head was screaming the complete opposite.
"At least we'll get nicer weather!" We laughed. For a long time- or what thats it felt like. The mood had lifted around us but the conversation was still heavy. I explained how Megan was angry at the world for taking away her parents in a car crash and her sister run a fire. I remained calm as I told them about Madison. My heart thumped as Niall glanced sideways knowing together we caused Megan pain. Through it all I still felt content. Content with the fact that I was the only one who had seen her, her beauty was confined- in me- and no-one else. I came to an end, the boys all leaned back on the stones they were seated on.
"It's our job to protect her. And we must do that." Louis' voice was thick with emotion. An emotion I would soon live...
