Happy New Year everyone :) here's a little gift for everyone who has voted for the last chapter. I got another quick 10 votes from all my readers :) thank  you so much :D In this chapter, here are some facts you need to consider. I've placed lots of foreshadowing throughout the story.

1. Remember Ash's first chapter? He mentioned about some roses inside his notebook of lists of people to kill. Does that tell you about something?

Who's gonna be Mason? You will be clarified here. Remember, Ash had never met Cinder's sister. Only Ryan had met Allison. Ash was with the police when Ryan met Allison. So he doesn't know Cinder has a stepsister, more importantly an evil stepsister. He's going to sound very stupid here... I'm sorry o.o

Chapter 11—ALMOST IS NEVER ENOUGH

Asher

“My sister was hell to me,” she complained. “She made Dad hate me.” She said all these through tears, and I was cradling her in my arms. I realized her pain was worst than unbearable. Her life reminded me of my own. Dad hated me. He wouldn’t even risk seeing me, and I was fine with it. When he was home, Mom would usually hide me inside her closet.

If he finds me, I would be writhing in pain for the rest of the week, and I wouldn’t be able to move an inch from my bed.

“I’m really sorry,” I told her.

She folded her arms. “Give me solutions! Geez, you said sorry for a thousand times. That’s not helping, Stupid!”

I laughed. “I’m sorry—“

She groaned and let her head fall to my lap. The rain poured, and we were seated on the cold wet pavement below the bus stop. My hand stroked her long chocolate hair. She screamed at me when I asked her why she was wearing a sleeveless Mickey Mouse shirt and short blue skirt. I raised my hands, showing that I wasn’t going to fight on, and her screams finally died down.

Sniffing, she continued her story. “Allison was having her 12th birthday party, and do you know what’s her wish after she blow the candles?” she asked me.

I have a feeling that I wouldn’t want to hear this. She shivered in the coldness, and I took off my jacket almost immediately. Placing it on top of her, her blue eyes sparkled, and she smiled. She squeezed my small hand, and I squeezed it back to assure her everything would be okay. Sadness washed over her when she cleared her throat before pursuing back to her story.

Cinder coughed as tears advanced down her cheeks. “S—she looked at me straight in the eyes—“

“It’s okay if you don’t tell me now. You know that I’ll always be here, right? You can tell me anytime,” I tried to calm her down, to soothe her. I knew it wasn’t helping.

She shook her head. “She wished I’m gone, Mason.”

I winced. Dad wished that I could be in pain everyday.

“Her wish is for me to disappear into thin air.” She shuddered. A teardrop escaped her eyes, and I wiped it using my finger. Her eyes glanced at me, and for a moment, we stared into each other’s eyes. I seemed to melt into her blue ones. Warmth grew on my cheeks, and I quickly looked away so she wouldn’t see me blushing. It was just too embarrassing.

But Cinder caught the look. She gave me a smug look and tugged at my shirt. “Hey, are you sick?” she questioned mockingly. Her sad mood was instantly gone. It was time to tease Mason.

I rolled my eyes. “No, I’m not.”

“There’s something red on your cheeks,” she pointed out.
