Chapter 29—IMPOSSIBLE to win her heart
Cinder
“Today, right at 03:32 PM, an abandoned building was blown up unexpectedly,” the reporter said, pointing at the crumbling building and firefighters around. “Nobody knows the clear reason behind this bombing, and the police is still searching the area for possible reasons. If there are victims inside the crumbling building, the police stated that the victims must have been burnt to ashes before we could rescue them.”
Ash shivered and pulled his sheets closers to him. Feverishly, he buried his head into the pillow and groaned. “C—can you please turn off the TV?” he whispered through his hoarse voice before turning his head away.
Immediately, I pressed the red button on the remote control and allowed Ash to close his eyes. Andrew announced that he would buy some food before quickly exiting our hotel room. He must have seen the awkwardness surrounding us. Slowly, I was also starting to get bored, sitting in a chair and doing nothing.
Ash stirred and eyed me. “Did you worry?” he whispered as he turned his head towards me
I glared at him and gritted my teeth. “What do you think, jerk?” I half-screamed at him. I could sense that Ash was chuckling.
He smiled gratefully with a blush forming around his cheeks. “Thanks for caring. It means a lot, really.”
“So the heartless Ash do have feelings,” I pointed out sarcastically, and Ash threw a pillow at me, hard. His throw was perfect, and it hit me in the head with a thud. Laughing, I fell towards the carpeted ground, grinning like a maniac. Being reunited with Ash had made me more than delighted, happy, and grateful.
“I’m sorry if I made you worried,” Ash apologized sincerely. His eyes changed. Disappointment crossed his face, but he quickly brushed his feelings away. Then he sighed and clasped his hands together. He formed his thoughts before saying, “When are you going to ask?”
Blinking, I hugged the thrown pillow and eying him questioningly. “Ask what?” I asked him, dumbfounded.
“Where I was, why I was there, and what happened,” he mentioned slowly. He guiltily looked at me before looking down. “I’m really sorry.”
“Well, you shouldn’t,” I declared in a soft voice. “I know you’ve experienced a lot there. I want to know, but I won’t force you to tell me. Tell me whenever you feel like it.” I didn’t want him to remember his family’s death. It was my entire fault. He lost everything to protect me, and for that, I was the one who should be begging on my knees. Ash did nothing wrong to be sorry.
Ash glanced at the ceiling and cleared his throat. “I feel stupid when I remembered the reason why I actually fell into Nathan’s trap,” he admitted. “It all started with stubbornness and disappointment. I couldn’t blame anyone else but myself. I started it anyway.”
He glanced at the window and stared at the moving cars outside. Coldness began to seep into the room, and I hugged myself to keep the warmth. The silence engulfed us for a moment before he began to speak up again.
“I saw you and Andrew going for dinner in Sweden,” he began. “I guess I didn’t like the fact that you chose to go with him rather than going with me. So I walked around blindly and ended up in this bar.” The truth that came out of his mouth made him blush. He felt ridiculous for doing such actions.
