I'm very sorry for leaving you guys hanging for months! I've been studying really hard for exams and the tests each subject force us to take on the last two weeks before the exam officially begin. Anyway, here's the second last chapter. Ash does have cancer. Cinder and Ash might have many problems to get to the heir ceremony. But no matter what they do, they were really unable to get away from this last thing. They always got away from their enemies, but this time, they won't... Yeah... I think you'll hate me after you read the end of the chapter.
Chapter 33-In love ALL OF A SUDDEN
Ash
"I promise I won't do anything stupid!"
It was easy to escape the hospital. All it takes was a little pleading and flirting with the nurses before they decided to leave me alone. They've been feeding me with many meds, checking my bandages, and making sure I don't rip off all the cables from the machines. Finally, after convincing them that I would be in my best behavior and not harassing old people outside my room, the two nurses left my room.
As soon as the door closed gently, I ripped myself from the IV line protruding into my skin and climbed out of the hospital window. At first, I was hesitant, my heart skipping a beat as I looked down. Fear gripped me for a while. It looked almost bottomless. If my life hadn't been temptation itself, I wouldn't have the guts to jump. Mustering the courage, I placed both my legs out of the window and began to slip down carefully. My room wasn't that high. It was just the third floor.
Outside, people were watching me climb down using some of the opened windows to help me, as I was getting closer to the ground. They probably thought I was crazy. People pointed at me, and their mouths flew open. I winked at them before reaching the ground and beginning to run towards the hospital exit. Hot on my trail, some security guards charged after me as if I was their prey. Although my energy was failing, I kept running and taking unpredictable moves. Then, I was out of sight, the lights of the hospital fading away in the dark alleys.
Standing on the street, I waved at a taxi passing by and asked the driver to bring me to a certain address: the place where the Heir ceremony was adjourned. The driver nodded at me before he started racing with time. I looked out of the window and stared at the lights outside, thinking it wouldn't be long before I would never be able to open my eyes. My heart would stop beating, and my brain wouldn't be functioning as well. I sighed and tried to forget the imminent pain waiting for me.
Cancer.
Death.
Just as I was about to step out of the taxi, another wave of pain attacked me. I gripped car door and gritted my teeth. My eyes watered as I slammed the taxi door close and stared as the taxi began to move farther away. Another outbreak of pain caused me to lose my breath. I gripped my head that seemed to be splitting into two. It took a whole 5 minutes before the pain died down. I was finally able to breath normally without the feeling of someone chocking me.
Ignoring the pain, I entered the heir ceremony with determination and new sense of courage. I am going to be useful to others, even in the last hours of my life. I'm not going to leave my girl alone in the midst of trouble. I will be there for her no matter what.
Cinder
My hands were shaking as Liam took the microphone back. He held it in front of him and addressed the crowd. I shivered as the crowd cheered. Finally, we are entering the final stage of tonight's meeting: the Heir ceremony. The thought of my speech made me shudder, and I peeked on the notes on my palm. Yes, I've already prepared that far.
Beside me, Andrew clasped my hand with his and squeezed it, trying to give me reassurance. But I knew what was coming, the inevitable future that was coming in front of my path. Death was so close. If I was a real saint, I wouldn't worry about death, but after reminiscing the things I've done in the past, I don't think I would go safely to safe haven.
