Chapter 32—SO SICK of this world

Cinder

Our Cinderella story reached its climax at the ball. Shyly, she walked through the crowd of people dressed glamorously, those who believed they would be perfect for the prince. But the Prince didn’t have his eyes on them. Their eyes met, and each held each other’s stare. And then she knew he was the one. He knew she was the one.

But although she knew he was meant for her, she had to leave him after midnight. Heartbroken, she ran for her carriage with the Prince trailing behind her. She cried when her carriage turned into its original shape, pumpkins, and stared back at the castle that looked too far away. And she wondered if she could meet him again.

Nonetheless, the same situation happened to our futuristic Cinderella: me.  I was going to leave him.  We had just reconciled, rebounded, and reconstructed the broken pieces of our story. Conquering every single obstacle, we had made it out of the devil’s lairs alive. Our story was almost perfect.

Almost.

Looking at Ash sleeping soundlessly in his hospital bed, I turned away and nodded at Andrew. He handed me a shopping bag, and I changed into more luxurious clothing in the bathroom. I looked into the mirror and applied a dark red lipstick. When I stared back the mirror, I felt powerful, courageous. I felt like I could overthrow anything on my way.

“Ready?” Andrew asked, looking at me curiously.

“Yes,” I replied sternly. Outside the hospital, a black limousine had waited for us. Andrew and I walked out of the hospital with poise and a stay out aura around us. The people inside the hospital widened their eyes at how unbelievable tall and pointy my red heels were. I smiled at them before grasping Andrew’s arm, urging him to walk faster. The stares from the nurses were giving me the creeps.

Slamming the door, I got into the limo and sat with my legs crossed. Andrew had one of his friends to rent us a car. When Andrew said car, he was referring to those road simple cars. The last thing we expected was to have a limo parked outside the hospital.

But this was what we have. And let’s give Andrew’s friend a little credit. It’s quite comfortable anyway. As the limo took on the road, I checked the watch strapped around my wrist. We were three hours early from the Heir Ceremony party. A head start to our plan was all we needed to succeed.

“Do you bring the ingredients?” I broke the silence filling the car. Andrew finally turned his head from the window and grinned. He pulled a black suitcase out of nowhere and tapped on it.

“Our baby is ready,” Andrew announced.

I rolled my eyes at his answer. In no time, we reached our destination: a huge office building located at the edge of the city. Even though it was still early before the party, there were already several expensive cars parked nearby. Andrew tapped me and motioned me to stay cautious at all times.

We got out of the car, and thankfully, no one seemed to notice us as we entered the building through one of the back doors. That was when we begin our mission. The intelligent Andrew had found the blueprint of the place. He had marked the perfect places to place our ingredients in.
