Chapter 23—TALK DIRTY to me

Ash

The flight was an endless nightmare.

Pain attacked me, and I woke up in my seat with sweat dribbling down my forehead. My breathing was ragged, panting. I looked at my surroundings with blurry eyes. Tears were coursing down my cheeks. With trembling lips, an unusual cold feeling rushed down my body. I clutched my thin blanket tightly and waited for the pain to stop.

But it didn’t. The pain increased, like someone was stabbing me repeatedly. I grasped my seat and squeezed it tightly. Every part of my body was screaming. I felt like I was bathing in fire. My failing energy caused me to slump back onto my seat. Nausea slapped me mercilessly. As the plane flew on, the pain multiplied, and my breathing accelerated. My mouth was dry.

By the time a stewardess passed me, I was at the cliff of fainting, the pain eating me up. With my remaining strength, I called for her weakly, forcing my hand to wave at her. She quickly turned to me, surprised of my weak trembling voice. Wrinkles formed on her head as she furrowed her forehead. Her face twisted into a worried expression.

“Can I have a warm towel and a cup of water?” I asked her, forcing a smile on my face.

She nodded. “Do you need—”?

Shaking my head, I interrupted her. “No, I don’t need anything else. Thank you.”

The stewardess quickly rushed back to the area behind the curtains, near the end of the plane. I could barely see her as she closed the curtains. My eyes continued to water. Beside me, I heard Cinder mumbled something in her dream. After the commotion between us, the other passengers got up from their seats and shushed us. Her cheeks were flaring as she gave me back my headphones. Ignoring the glares around us, I placed the headphones back to cover my ears and continued to watch my movie.

Beside Cinder, Andrew extended his sleep time. With his feet on top of each other, he leaned on the wall relaxingly. Seeing him like this, I wondered if he was really a profession killer, just like he claimed to me. He was ignorance and reckless. And this guy almost got us late to the plane.

“Excuse me?”

I blinked and glanced to find the stewardess staring at me. She passed me the towel and the cup of water. Gulping all the content of the cup, I nodded thankfully at her before returning the cup. With the warm towel in my hand, I wiped my face, trying to swipe all the tiredness of my face. In a matter of seconds, the towel adjusted itself to the coldness of its surroundings.

I let myself sink into my seat. Placing the damp towel on my forehead, I let my eyelids grow heavy. And before I knew it, I was back to sleep.

But my weariness was never fading.

And I didn’t know why.

Until it killed me.
