Chapter 18

I opened my locker to do the usual, put books in, take books out. As I closed it I screeched at the sight of Sofie in a bunch of birthday stuff. 

"Happy birthday!" she screamed, throwing confetti on me. I already hate this.

"Thanks..but why?" I faked a smile. "Because."

"You really shouldn't have Sofie. Really, you SHOULDN'T have." I sighed. "I'm sorry if it's too much but I love birthdays." 

I nodded, "O..kay."

She shoved a small box in my hand. Inside was half a heart necklace. I gently picked it up, "Aw, thanks Sof." 

"Yeah I have the other half." she showed me. 

It was a 'BFF' necklace, so we had half the heart. "I gave you the red one because there's so many things about you that's red." she explained. 

"Thanks, but ironically my favourite colour isn't red, it's blue." I told her, beginning to walk away.

She followed, "Wasn't expecting that." she laughed. 

"So..Mason give you anything yet?" she asked, wiggling her eyebrows. "I don't want anything from him." I replied.

"Ugh you're still trying to avoid and ignore him! Just tell him you're a-" she paused, "-vampire." she whispered. 

Yeah, I told her. It was hard not to because she knew I was avoiding him for some reason. 

"No!" I snapped. "Why?" she whined. I opened my mouth but nothing came out. Why can't I just tell him?

"Hmm, you don't even know why you're not telling him." she folded her arms. 

"Plus, he basically knows just needs confirmation." I sighed, "It wouldn't be the same." "It's not the same now!" she exclaimed. 

"Scarlet he likes you and you like him. He imprinted on you for goodness sake!"

"I know but-" "But nothing." she stopped me. I huffed. The bell rang, "See you at lunch." I waved, walking to Chemistry.

I walked to me and Sofie's usual table. I stopped sitting with Mason after...the incident.

I plopped on the opposite side of Sofie, facing directly at Mason's table. Brian suddenly walked over. 

"If it's about Mason I don't want to hear it." I stated. 

"It's not, I just wanted to tell you happy birthday." he smiled. "Oh..thanks Brian." He walked back to his seat. 

"Oh my gosh 'brat in the cool hall' approaching." Sofie said, I groaned.

We made this kind of nickname for Lily, it makes not sense unless you just look at the first letters and put them together.

"Hey Scarlet." Lily plastered a fake smile. "Seems like you've stayed away from Mason." she smirked. 

"Wow, way to state the obvious there Lily." I rolled my eyes. "I actually thought you had a thing for him, but guess not." she shrugged, playing with the straw in her cup.

"You wouldn't mind me hanging out with him would you?" she asked in a sickingly sweet voice. I swear her and Bob would be perfect for each other.

I glared at her and shook my head,"I don't care what you do."

"Great." she again smirked and walked over to Mason, taking a seat beside him, really closely and held his hand, the other hand playing in his hair.

I felt something cold in my hand and I realised that I may have slightly squeezed my water bottle a little too hard.

"Scarlet calm down." Sofia said slowly. I angrily got up from my seat and marched past Mason, out of school.

I kicked a trashcan and screamed in my hands, I got strange looks but to hell what they think.

I went and sat by a tree, bringing my knees to my chest. I didn't cry, just thought. The bell rang after a while and I grudgingly walked to my next class.

What a fantastic birthday!

~Later that day~

I walked into the woods to just calm myself before I became leader in like some minutes, I don't know.

"Rose." I paused and slowly turned around. I took a breath, "Mason."

He was a fairly good distance from me and he gave me a smile saying 'Happy birthday'. I thanked him and that's where awkward silence began, until he broke it.

"You walked really fast out of the cafeteria during lunch." he stated the obvious. 

"Yeah." "Are you okay?" I nodded, "Fine." "About that day," he began. I looked down. "Are you gonna clarify that you're a blood sucking demon or not?"

"I'm not a blood sucking demon!" I cried. 

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that." "Is there some other meaning for 'blood sucking demon' I don't know about?"

He opened but then immediately closed his mouth.

"Jeez Mason, I'm a vampire, you already knew, I don't see why clarification is needed when you have all the facts. Happy now?" I said agitatedly.

"Very." he slowly nodded. 

"Yeah well just go and leave me, no reason for you to love me anyway so have a nice life." I told him beginning to walk off.

He spun me around, he drew near me, very slowly, the intensity building up inside me.

Is this it? Is this going to be my first kiss? 

Our lips were so close his plump ones ready to touch mine and I closed my eyes to enjoy the moment.

"Work work work work work work. See me haffi work work work work work work." 

We jumped apart, I internally groan and I can see the clear embarrassment and disappointment written across Mason's face as I pulled out my phone from my pocket.

Mom.

"Yes mom?" "Come home now, we gotta go." she said. "Coming." I sighed, hanging up. Mason and I looked at each other awkwardly.

I gotta go. I have to become the leader of the vampires, so yeah." I slightly frowned. 

"Yeah, it's okay. See you around I guess." he gave a small smile. "Yeah thanks."

"Oh wait before you go, I got you something." he handed me a small box and inside was a bracelet.

"Thanks, I love it." I admired the tiny piece of jewellery in my possession. 

I hugged him tightly and he put on the bracelet and I admired it some more. I looked up at him and suddenly our faces were really close again.

"I'm glad you like it." he said, kissing me on my cheek and walked off.

When he was no longer in sight I kicked a tree, leaving a bruise on it. "Ugh"! I screamed. I dashed home feeling really annoyed.
