Scarlet's POV:
We all decided to meet at my house to open our letters from the schools we wanted. Sofie and Ross wanna go to Yale and Mason and I wanna go Stanford.
So I was here with Mason and Ross, waiting for Sofie.
It's pretty awkward if you ask me.
I heard the door open and I gave a huge sigh of relief as Sofie walked into the living room. I ran to her and hugged her, "Great to see you Sof."
She looked at me like I had gone mad. "You're hugging me? Are you okay?"
I nodded, "Now I am." Looking at Ross and Mason she caught on to my act and nodded, "Sorry for keeping y'all waiting."
"So who wants to open theirs first?" I ask.
"Do you guys wanna open it together?" Ross suggests. I shrug, "Let's do that." The sound of papers ripping and anxiety filled the room.
We each took out the piece of paper from inside the envelope and gave excited shouts.
"I got in!" we all shout.
"You got in?" we asked each other.
We were all basically celebrating except for Mason. He had a smile on his face but he didn't look happy.
"Mason, are you okay?" I ask.
"We'll just-um- go to the kitchen to get some stuff." Sofie said, leaving with Ross to the kitchen. I nodded and looked back at Mason.
"Mason?"
"Nothing's wrong Rose. Let's go with them to the kitchen." he sighed, walking away. I put out my hand to stop him.
"You don't look happy. Didn't you get into Stanford?" I ask.
He nodded, "I did, it's just-" "It's just what?"
"I got accepted into Harvard." he blurted. "What? That's great!" I smiled. "I wanna go there." he continued.
I frowned, "But we planned to go to Stanford, together."
"I know, but I wasn't expecting to get into Harvard." he defended. I took a breath, "So that whole frown you had a while ago, were you wishing to not get into Stanford?"
He shook his head, "Of course not. Well, maybe. I don't know."
I shook my head, "Unbelievable. So you're basically just telling me that you don't wanna go to Stanford with me?"
"Of course I wanna go with you." he sighed. "So Stanford is just done with then? You don't even wanna bother with it again? You really wanna go Harvard?"
"I don't know." he gave another sigh.
"Then go Mason. It's your dream so go live it." I told him. "Rose."
"Mason, if you really wanted to go Stanford we wouldn't be having this talk. You're just acting like this towards Harvard probably because you don't wanna hurt me but Harvard is you're dream so just go." I walked to the kitchen.
Sofie and Ross scrambled to the fridge, pretending that they weren't listening.
"Don't guys. I'm not an idiot. I heard your breathing and whispers." I sighed, going to the cupboard to get some popcorn.
"I told you she would hear us." Ross told Sofie.
"I thought she'd be too up in her talk with Mason that she wouldn't hear us." she defended. I rolled my eyes.
--------------------------------------------
"This is extremely hard. I can't dance for nothing." Sofie laughed as she danced with Ross.
We were playing Just Dance and Mason was watching them on the couch while I sat near the window, just staring outside.
"Rose, Mason. Wanna go?" Sofie asked.
"Sure." "No." Mason looked at me, "Why don't you wanna go?" I roll my eyes, "Cause I don't wanna go. If you wanna go, go straight ahead."
"Why do I feel like we're not talking about the game anymore?" Ross whispered to Sofie.
"Rose. Is this really necessary? We're trying to have fun." Mason told me. I scoffed, "Are you really blaming me right now? We were gonna have a perfect day until you say you're going to Harvard!"
"I never said I was going!" he yelled back.
"You might as well cause why would you wanna go with me right. Go meet new people, do whatever you want."
"Who said anything about meeting new people. Rose come on I love you!"
I wiped my tears, "Can you just leave. Please." I couldn't bear to look at him. "Rose," he sighs, "I'm sorry."
"Me too."
--------------------------------
"So, Harvard." Sofie said softly.
I nodded then remembered she couldn't see me. "Yeah." "I'm so sorry Scarlet. You seemed really upset earlier."
"I was but I'm okay now. I can't stop him from his dream." I told her.
"But you don't want him to go." she said. "Of course I don't want him to go Sof. I-I love him." my voice cracks.
"Then don't let him go."
"I don't wanna be the reason why he didn't do what he wanted to do with his life." I sigh. "So what are you gonna do?" she asked.
"Nothing," I told her.
"He's going to Harvard and I'm going to Stanford."
