I closed my locker to then be spun around by Ross ad pulled into a hug, he did the same to Sofie.
"Hey my favouite gals." I smiled, "Hey Ross." Sofie and I said.
He kissed the both of us on our cheeks and to that, Sofie blushed heavily, looking down. Hmm..
The bell rang, "Who's excited for free period!" Sofie exclaimed. Ross and I cheered. "Where to for this marvelous occasion?" I asked with a chuckle.
"Library?" Sofie and I nodded. "Great, to the library." I said.
"Rose!" I heard Mason's voice behind me. I pretended I didn't hear him and continued walking. Sadly, he caught up to us.
"Rose, I know you hate me and have no intentions of speaking to me but just this once hear me out." I sighed.
He smiled, "Would you like to hang out me? Like the day when I ditched school?" he asked sheepishly.
I smiled fondly at the memory of that day. "With that gorgeous smile, should I take it as a yes?" I slowly nodded.
I would't mind having another day like that.
Ross frowned and Sofie grinned. "I'll pick you up at 4?" I nodded, "See you then." He walked away and I fully faced Ross' sour face.
"What?" I asked him.
"He asked you out on a date and you said yes." "It's not a date, he just wants to hang out." I defended.
"How can you be so blind." he scoffed.
I shook my head in disbelief, looking away from him. "Rose," he sighed. I suddenly felt really uncomfortable with him calling me Rose.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that."
"But you did." He sighed. "Why does me hanging out with him affect you so much?" "Any boyfriend would be jealous of another guy. I mean we're together aren't we?"
I didn't respond.
"I see." "No, Ross. I just-I just didn't know that's what you thought of us." "I didn't know that you didn't think of us."
I gave a nod, taking in a breath and walked outside.
"Rose! No I didn't-" Ross called but I ignored him. I sat below the tree as I just stared into space. Sofie sat beside me, "You know he did't mean to say that. He's just upset you're hanging out with Mason. He doesn't want you to get hurt."
"Do you think Mason was asking me on a date?"
She shrugged, "Does it really matter how he thought of it. It's how you think of it that matters." I nodded, "You're right. Thanks."
"Let's go to the library. He's waiting for us." I got up and walked to the library with Sof.
We saw Ross in the far back, by the shelves that no one touches, sitting on the floor. We sat down and I didn't say anything.
"Rose, I'm-" he started but I interrupted, "Yeah, I know." I kissed his cheek and embraced him in a hug.
----------------------------
What to wear. What to wear. I rummaged through my clothes to find something to wear on my date- I mean hang out with Mason.
Mom came inside, "What's going on?" "I'm going out with Mason." I replied.
"What about Ross? Aren't you two dating?" I nodded, "I'm just hanging out with Mason." I told her.
"Okay, this hang out must be really special. I've never seen you obsess so much to impress Ross." she noted.
I ignored her comment and continued look for clothes.
She then pulled out a red top, black jeans and a red converse. "Thanks mom." she always picks the best things.
I changed and it was five minutes until Mason was gonna pick me up. I sat on the couch, waiting for his arrival.
Ten minutes have passed and he's not here. I'm sure he's just running a little late.
Twenty minutes and he still isn't here. "I'm sure he's coming." mom assured me. I nodded.
Thirty-five minutes! It's five! I can't believe he stood me up. I suddenly got a call. "Hello?" I answered.
"Hello. Is this Scarlet Rose White?" the person asked.
"Depends on who's calling." "I'm from the hospital. I called to inform you of your friend Mason Lockhart being in a serious accident.
I let out a shaky breath, "Oh my gosh, I'll be right there." I hang up the phone and ran out the door.
"Mom! I'm going out!" "Be safe!" she yelled back.
-------------------------------------
I paced back and forth. I wonder if he's okay. I can't believe I thought he stood me up. I should've known something bad happened.
"Rose?"
My breathing hitched, "Ross." I broke into tears. He hugged me, "Don't cry he'll be fine." he comforted.
When I began to calm down I asked, "How did you know I was hear."
"I told you before that I feel when you need my presence." he said softly, "That and your mom told me."
I giggled, "Thanks for being here."
"Scarlet Rose White?" asked a man. "Yes?" "Mason is under a very serious condition. He could die if not treated properly."
I gasped. "But luckily we have the treatment." he said. I smiled, "That's great." "But we're not sure if it'll work. We have never really seen anything like this before." I frowned.
"How is he now?" I feared the response.
"Well right now, he's fighting for breath but if the treatment works he'll be fine." the man told me.
"So it's just a big if." tears form in my eyes.
The man nodded. "C-can, can I see him?" I practically pleaded. He again nodded, "Room 118." I sped to the room Mason was being kept in and when I walked inside I almost fell from shock.
He was pale and his chest was constantly moving up and down.
My tears fell and I slowly inched towards the side of his bed. His hand was trembling and when I touched it, it felt cold, too cold.
I held onto his hand and kissed it softly. His breathing calmed and I took a step back.
Did his breathing calm because of me. It excited me that I helped him but I'm known for causing pain not taking it away.
His lips were slightly opened and I couldn't help but wonder if this is because I said it wouldn't affect me if he died.
I just learnt I could take away pain what else could I do.
"I'm so sorry I thought you stood me up. I should've known you wouldn't do that. I know you care about me." I took a seat beside him.
I let out a breath, "I care about you too. You have to fight this. Whatever is happening to you, you're too strong to let it kill you."
I start to cry again, "I can't lose you."
