Chapter 4 - Hiking

"Are you sure you're even  human" Chloe asked and I looked up startled from my plate of Bacon strips and toast .

Chloe sat beside me applying lip gloss.
"I envy you" she continued making a face" You eat this much and still maintain an athlete body "she fumed and I stuck my tough out at her .

" Have you seen Jeff lately? "She asked furrowing her perfect blonde eyebrows.
" Nope " I said taking a bite from the toast.
" Its been a while since we spoke. "
"I guess he's hanging out with the other guys. I heard Alan blabbering about some basketball match this afternoon"
"Hmm"

We walked out of the cafe later and headed to the Miller's boutique. Chloe and I decided to stay back for a few more hours since we would be hiking the next week.

"Wish you hadn't turned him down "
Knowing it beforehand on what followed next , I ignored her and fixed my gaze on the brunette who had just tried on a midnight blue empire waist silk dress and was scrutinizing herself up and down in the mirror.

"The colour goes well with your eyes ma'am" I commented .
" I want look elegant and ravishing at the ball. I'm not finding the right one" she averred.
"Why don't you try this " Chloe asked withdrawing a jacquard sheath from the rack.

The brunette turned away towards the mirror and away from us and Chloe started whispering again.

" He isn't going out with Sofia anymore and I am positive about the rumours that he is definitely disregarding Rachel."
"I'm not impressed with your news " I replied.
She opened her mouth again and I cut her off.
"Look , I don't care what Ryan's up to and certainly don't give a damn about his relationship status .He asked me out and I said no. End of story."
I turned my attention back to the brunette and heard distantly Chloe murmur " You still can't delay he fancies you "
She was just blowing this out of proportion.

I was descending down the stairs when I heard Mrs Martinez calling Nick.The six year old was playing in the backyard .
"Get inside " she insisted as the temperature seemed to drop every minute.
I pulled my hoodie over my short pixie black hair as I stood waiting.

I heard the screeching of the tires before I made out the silhouette of the two cars racing towards me. 
    
Jeff almost ran the car over me making me jump back and curse him under my breadth . I scowled loudly as I sat behind him and Alan and threw my back pack beside me.

We stopped at Chloe's later and that's when I got a glimpse of him in his  Porsche sitting beside Luke in the driver seat. I also noticed a tent neatly folded and stuffed in their car.

I thought we were just hiking. When I asked Jeff about it he simply shrugged and told me that they were planning to spend the night on the hilltop which was  actually prohibited and shook my head pondering how they were planning to pull it off.

It was long ride to the Quinault rainforest trailhead and a memorable one too. Not a minute had passed in silence. Thanks to Jeff and Alan who just lit the place around them with their mundane talks.

My heart fluttered each second. The idea about hiking with a bunch of humans would have sounded ridiculous a few months ago and I thought how much life had changed since then.

Though the cold breeze felt good on my face, I still felt better with the windows  high and the heater turned on. And also  the others couldn't put up with the weather as much as i did .

Though a tiny part of my brain told that the place we were headed was close to LA Push , I was able to drown it with many other pleasant thoughts I was enduring at the present.
