Chapter 25 - Making Amends

I froze .

I am a werewolf...

How the hell had those words slipped past my tongue?
My words rang in my head again and I bit my lip .

I was shit scared to move even an inch and remained petrified.

"A werewolf?" Renzo snorted looking briefly at me. "Seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?"

I read his expression which was quite blank but there was a trace of maybe boredom -I wasn't sure .

"And I am a..." He trailed away thinking hard ."um...a zombie! "He decided finally and chuckled again .

Thank god...He thinks its a joke!A bad joke at that.

I heard a whimper that  belonged to neither me nor Renzo .

I glanced at Pearl to see her eyes widened with fear as she gazed up at Renzo repelled.

"Zombie?" She whispered with uneasiness .

"Yes. Are you afraid of me ?" He sneered and drew closer to her grinning stupidly .

I slapped him on his arm .
"You're scaring her mutt !"

He glared at me and was about to open his mouth when the waiter approached us with Renzo's cappuccino.

"Your drink , sir ." he muttered as he placed it in our table and returned to the counter .

A few minutes lapsed in silence while I and Renzo sipped our drinks while Pearl was yawning frequently .

"How's Elis doin?"I asked abruptly.

" Elis?"he asked perplexed. "She's doing fine. Why?"

"Merely curious." I shrugged .

"Undoubtedly." He smirked.

Ignoring him I continued."I...I saw her earlier today " I started whispering the words since Pearl had dozed off.

I hoped he would question me more regarding the details but he was silent nodding his head .

I recalled catching a brief  glimpse of her when my car passed her this morning .

"She was with someone..." I continued trying to gouge out a reaction from him but he remained motionless hardly giving my words a thought .

"A man to be precise ."

"That's great. I'm glad she found someone for herself .I -"

"She was crying on his shoulders and I didn't hear much exchange between them but I definitely heard your name mentioned."

"Oh." The bewilderment that flickered across his features dimmed .

"Are you sure you heard it right .I mean ...there could be many -"

"The exact words that  I caught were 'Randy left me' but I didn't give it a thought at first but later realized it might have something to do with you. "
"Did she say anything else ?" He murmured looking away ,deep in thoughts .

"No .I don't like eavesdropping on others conversations." I snapped.

"I think she likes you ....a lot ." I continued after a few minutes since Renzo didn't bother giving me a reply .

"I'm not worth her ." he said shaking her head .

"What?" I asked surprised."Of course you are .I mean you're so rich , not so bad like many other rich men I have known , a little...just a little handsome..."I trailed away looking at his scornful expression .
