Loud knocks at the door woke me up from my comfortable hibernation .
Yawning widely I blinked rapidly at the bright light piercing my eyes. Grabbing my phone from the bed side table I glanced at the time.
It was ten in the morning. With a shriek I sat upright throwing the covers off me.
I had overslept ...again.
It had been four pleasant days since our departure . The late night clubs and the long drives in the morning had taken a toll on me.
"Coming ." I called out drowsily to Sarah who continued to knock at the door .
"Freshen up . There's a barbecue downstairs. "
"Uh?" Puzzled I looked after her as she danced her way down the stairs .
Fifteen minutes later I descended down to join them after a hot shower .
I was quite puzzled to see the house empty but I could hear them in the outdoor space .
I opened the door and walked over the Brazilian walnut deck bordered by tall grasses .
It effused a cozy rustic feel that was perfect for a morning barbecue.
But the shock hit like a thunderbolt when I realized it wasn't the servants cooking the meat on the rack in an open fire.
Noticing my befuddled state Ed chose to answer my thoughts ."They dismissed the servants ."
I could tell from his expression that he didn't approve their decision .
Absorbing the scene before me ,I took my time to come back to earth and made my way to Renzo trying and failing to hide my chuckles when I noticed him with an apron holding a metal spatula.
"Mmm...smells good." I lied mocking him."Didn't know you could cook."I said staring at the burnt meat that almost smelt like fish .
"I'm sorry, are you teasing me ?" He asked averting his eyes from the disaster he managed to make .
"Eyes on the salmon, boy." James said nudging him .
"Definitely gonna be edible ." I mumbled sarcastically taking a cautious step away from him and the rack.
I walked around the open yard watching the others confabbing as they cooked.
Thankfully it looked like Ada and Drew were making progress while Sarah and Aeryn were trying their best to put out the smoke their meat was emanating.
Chuckling, I went to lean on the wooden fence beside Ed.
"Shouldn't you be joining them?"I shot the question at him .
" I don't cook."
"Wouldn't kill you to help ."
He snorted.
"They shouldn't have given the day off for the maids .And Drew left this work lagging behind for what? This?"
He shook his head frowning with disapproval .
