Chapter 22 - Why And Wherefore

"Why do you hate Ed?"

"I don't hate him. " Renzo murmured scratching his trimmed beard.
My eyes raked over his square jaw before finding my way up to his dark eyes ."It's just that he annoys me a lot."

"But you can't deny he hates you."
"Yes ,he does .He wants to prove himself worthy of inheriting my dad's business and since legally I have the right ..." He voice trailed away .

"Was he always like that-envious of you?"
"Not really , he isn't the same as he was a few years ago before his mother left James for another man -much wealthier than James was at the time."

"Oh my god. That's horrible. "

Renzo shrugged ."That's the reason dad offered him a job in this business when he hadn't still completed his studies. "

"But that doesn't explain his behavior with ...with the middle class  considering that  he himself was one ."

"He's a jerk. Now does that explain it ."
I elbowed him in the ribs ."I'm serious. "
"What do you want me to say?He changed. We can't help it ."

"But now he's falling for his sister's friend?"
"Yes .Looks like it. You should see his face when she's around. I even took a snap of it once . " he said proudly.

"It's not funny .Shut up .May be he truly cares for her ."

"Whatever. That is just not my department ."

"I don't get it. Why would he ask me to be his date when he likes her ?"
"Um...that's 'cause-"
"'Cause she's not a billionaire ?"
"Probably ."

"Don't you think its not fare?"
"I mentioned it to you already -his head doesn't work in the right way .He judges people by their wealth ."

"So, you don't share his opinion and thoughts, do you?"

"Nope. I judge people by their humor and I find I'm stuck with people who lack it at the moment ."
"Excuse me ?" I asked surprised as the gun backfired.

"Anyways " I continued trying  to make my point ."Then why is that you hadn't introduced Elis as your girlfriend ? Were you scared of your reputation too?"

"Hey , don't give me that look and also I told you earlier she is not my girlfriend ."
"You also mentioned she isn't your one night stand either ,I do remember so pray tell what is she for you?"

"Are you jealous?" He chuckled.
I glared at him as I pressed my lips to control my agitation.

"You think it's a joke?" I asked silently clenching my teeth.
"You're just encouraging her for nothing ." I continued. "Do you have any clue on how it feels to know that the person you love doesn't even give you a thought?"

"Ah! Someone's had an unpleasant past , I see. " he said drinking in my countenance.

"Answer me now !" I snarled .

"Well Miss look here -"

"I told you not to call me that!"

"Alright girl,  listen -"

"I have a name!" I snapped .

"We both know that is not your name ." he argued.

"We are so not having this conversation again ." I said  gritting my teeth.

"Fine ." he said raising his hands in the air ."Elis is just my friend . We don't love each other .And  I most definitely do not fall in love with anyone ."
