━━━━━━━━━Chapter 9

(POV) Bree
I can't believe I spent lunch with Chase and may, key word may, have gotten away with it. Then, there's the fact the Leo broke his leg one week before school ends. To top it all off, Adam graduates on Tuesday. This week just got even more interesting. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to see a text from Chase.
From Chase :P
Hey :) how's Leo? And... More importantly how are you?To Chase :P, From Bree
Well, Leo's leg is broken and we are currently waiting in the waiting room for him to come out of surgery. But anyway, I'm good. Tasha might know about us, but I told her your excuse so hopefully it worksFrom Chase :P
Hopefully is right :P I have work in an hour :P"Who are you texting?" Adam whispered from behind me. Adam was seated behind me while Tasha was in front of me. There was no one else there, it was 4 o' clock in the afternoon.
"Cha-" I whispered but was cut off.
"Yes, Bree. Who are you texting?" Tasha looked up from her magazine to see my face. I felt stuck, I knew for a fact now that Tasha knows about me talking to Chase.
"Caitlyn. She was telling me she broke up with Rodney... Again." I bit my lip waiting for Tasha's reaction.
"Oh, well tell her I'm sorry, and if she likes him still, I hope for the best." Tasha said while looking at the magazine. Tasha sounded so annoyed. I turned around, also feeling a bit annoyed. Now Tasha was blaming me for something I was clearly doing, falling for Chase when Tasha had told me not to.
"Dude, you need a better back up story, Tasha's onto you two. Soon enough, Davenport will be too." Adam whispered as he took my phone from me.
"Adam.." I tried but he continued.
"What, I'm just texting Caitlyn on your phone. I don't have her number." Adam said sarcastically. Adam did have her number, but Tasha didn't know that. Adam and Caitlyn went out for about a month until Caitlyn's long term crush, Rodney, asked her out. Rodney had known it would upset Adam. The two have never really gotten along. Caitlyn said yes anyway, and broke up with Adam.
"Ya-know, she just might want me back." Adam smiled as I sighed. This was already becoming the longest night of my life. And I couldn't even play any games on my phone simply because my idiot brother was being snoopy and reading through my texts.
•Adam's POV•
I looked down at Bree's phone to see her and Chase's conversation still pulled up.
From Chase :P
Hopefully is right :P I have work in an hour"Wow, this kid." I said aloud. Tasha turned to us with a questioning face. I could feel my eyes grown wide as I realized I had said that aloud. Bree discretely elbowed me in the shoulder. I glared back at her before answering Tasha's unasked question.
"Adam's laughing at how Rodney treated Caitlyn." Bree covered for me. It's good to have her as a sister, she understands I'm not good under pressure. I would have never been able to come up with that.
"Yeah, seriously. What kind of guy takes a girl to a sandwich shop on their anniversary? Me, I would definitely treat a lady to a top drawer*, stake dinner, and then a cheesecake dessert." I answered simply. Tasha rolled her eyes and turned back to her magazine. Wow, that was close. I sighed and handed Bree back her phone before spinning around to face forward. I slipped my own phone out of my pocket, wishing what Bree had said about Caitlyn was true. I wanted her back just as bad as Bree and Chase liked each other.
•Chase's POV•
I walked in the main mall doors along with a few other kids. I wonder why Bree never texted me back. I made my way through the door of Muffin Mania to see Davenport handing an order of muffins to the customer by the counter.
Over on the left side when you walk in, is a large window where you can see the bakers making the muffins. On the opposite side, there are tall tables with two tall chairs apiece. The whole store is a dull pink and blue with neon green poka dots on the wall. Then, there's the checkout counter against the back wall in the middle. Behind it is the doors to the kitchen and the locker room. There are clear colored shelves holding boxes for muffins on the back wall on either side of the doors while a large muffin display case sat just under the register on which Davenport was sitting behind.
"Hey, Chase,. How was school?" Davenport asked as I walked behind the desk and took his place. He sighed in relief as he took a seat at the barstool beside me. He had always her pretty involved in my life, so this was normal.
"Oh, you know how AP classes are. I had a lot of fun at lunch, though." I replied. Hey, if Bree can keep Tasha on the edge, I'm going to let Davenport wonder along with her.
"Who'd you eat lunch with?" Davenport asked. He was genuinely confused, I never have fun at lunch. He knows I don't like my "friends". I think Davenport and I are closer than me and my actual mom and dad. Which is probably why I hang out here half the time.
"Oh, just this girl,. You don't know her. But I like her... A lot. I really hope it can go somewhere." I sighed as I let my mind fall to Bree. I still had no idea why she hasn't texted me back. I was having fun talking with her and I could probably get away with texting her during work if Davenport didn't sit over my shoulder. He would simply assume I'm texting one of the guys or something.
"Wow, you really like this girl don't you?" Davenport asked. He stopped looking through the cash register to look at me. Davenport really likes his money. I nodded, knowing it was true. I had never been able to keep my mind off Bree. It was just worse now that I actually had a small bit of a chance.
"Yeah, but it could never work. There's these two people that really don't want us to get together. They just have issues between them... I really have no idea why they have to prevent us from being together." I finished with a smirk on my face, knowing he was smart enough to figure it out eventually. Davenport frowned as h turned his full attention to me, setting the money down as he did so.
"Who wouldn't let you be with this girl? If you really like her, go for it, Chase. Who are these people keeping you from each other?" Davenport looked up at me from his seat behind the counter. He would never be able to guess it if I didn't give him another shot. He had no idea it was him and Tasha who were keeping Bree and I apart. No matter how many times he's caught me looking at her from the window every night.
"Let's just say, those two people were in love once, and it didn't work. Now, they're taking out they're lost romance on us." I paused as Davenport's expression changed from concern, to a knowing glance. There it is. He knew it now. I had always wondered why he had simply spent his life on a bakery when he could have been a mad scientist or something. "By the way Boss, what ever happened to make you break up with Tasha Dooley? I hear you guys used to be in love, and then you broke her heart." I left the smirk on my face after seeing Davenport slowly work his way from mad, to furious. Davenport slowly stood up.
"Chase... What happened between Tasha and I, happened a long time ago. How did you even find out anyway?" Davenport asked snidely. I could tell I had hit a button I was need supposed to know was there. His face fell flat as he connected the dots. "Wait... This girl is Bree..." Davenport took a step forward and looked down at me, "isn't she."
