"No" Summer whispered. She grabbed Austin's phone. Sure enough, it said Aubrey Akkesson on it. She handed Austin his phone and covered her face. She felt his hand on her shoulder, she sunk to the ground.
"I'm sorry Summer." Austin said and sat down next to her. A tear rolled down her cheek, soon followed by another.
"I can't believe it. My mom? It has to be a typo or some..." Her voice was cut off by a sob.
"Summer, there is no easy way to say this, but they don't make typos."
Summer pulled her glasses off and put them next to her. Austin grabbed her hand and she didn't pull away. She was a little embarrassed about crying in front of him, but at the same time, her mom. Another set of tears overtook her. Austin pulled her into a half hug. She continued to cry until she felt his shirt get wet. When she felt like she couldnt cry anymore, she sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"You good?"
She nodded. "Sorry about your shirt." She apologized notioning towards the wet spot.
"Its okay, as long as it's just tears and no spit or snot."
She laughed, "All tears."
"Just saying, you definitely aren't an ugly crier."
"Whatever, you're just saying that."
"No, no I'm not."
She felt warmth rising in her cheeks.
"Summer, you can't stay here." He said, breaking the silence.
"Are you sure it's my mom?"
"Well, let's go listen in on her and your dad's conversation. Maybe it's not her."
They crept into the house and sat next to the kitchen where her parents were talking.
"She's going crazy hun, I bet you she's just going to run away and not come back." Her mom said.
"Then we need to keep a close eye on her."
"I say we let her, I mean the police will find her and then she'll probably get it out of her system."
"What?" Her dad exclaimed "Are you for real? You have to be joking!"
"Honey, everyone is looking out for her, I'm sure even the government knows."
Summer shuddered and felt Austin's hand brush her arm.
"Just leave her, she'll be fine! Let's just enjoy dinner, go get the kids."
Austin and Summer scrambled away. When they were outside he turned to face her.
"Tomorrow after school, you aren't going home. We have to get you away from your mom."
"Okay, I guess." She sighed.
"Summer," he came closer, "I am holding myself responsible for you. Nothing will happen to you while I'm around."
Summer nodded and hugged him. They broke apart, and Austin turned to leave. Summer sat down. She jumped when her dad came out.
"Dinner time." He called
Summer got up and looked at her dad. She could tell he was mad at her. At dinner she tried to stay quiet. Her mom and dad talked to the twins about their day and Summer picked at her lasagna.
"What did Summer do this time?" Morgan questioned.
Summer dropped her fork in the table and started to excuse herself before things got messy.
"Well honey," her mom hissed "How about you have Summer tell you?"
"Umm Mom, I don't want them to know."
"Well, then you shouldn't have attacked your therapist."
"Woah, Summer, you attacked someone?" Bridget asked.
"No, he attacked me."
"So you stapled him in the chest three times? You are going crazy aren't you? My own daughter, what a shame." Her mom said.
Summer bit her lip. She pushed her plate foward. "I'm not hungry anymore."
"Go to your room." Her dad growled. "I don't want to see you for the rest of the night."
Summer pushed in her chair and ran upstairs to her room. She tried to think clearly, but she couldn't. Her mom betrayed her and her dad was on her side. She sat on her bed and cried. She cried about her parents. She cried about her sisters. She cried because she had no friends. She cried because of her stupid, stupid gift. She swiped at the tears falling down her cheeks and hopped out of bed. The mint green and white polka dot duffle bag laid buried under her bed. It had been at least four years since she had used it. She started yanking clothes out of her drawer. She wasn't sure how many days worth she'd need so she grabbed about a week. She emptied her bathroom of her stuff, and left her straightener behind, sadly. She grabbed her backpack and started putting little things in, like waterproof mascara, chap stick, pens, a small notebook, extra glasses, etc. She ran a hand through her hair. When she was all packed, she got in the shower. As soon as she got in, she started crying. Her tears mixed with the water. She decided that it was okay to cry, at least for now. Tomorrow, she would grow up. She was fifteen after all. If she let herself cry after running away, she might not be able to stop. She lathered the soap in her hair. After a half an hour shower she got out. She pulled on pajamas and climbed into bed.

The alarm blared its way into Summer's dreams. She turned it off and felt her face. Once again she forgot to take off her glasses. She stumbled to the bathroom and splashed water on her face. After the daily routine of teeth brushing, face washing, and hair straightening, she emerged from the bathroom. She pulled on clothes and checked her phone. There was a text from Austin, u okay? It read. Yeah, she responded. She smiled, even though she knew what was going to happen today. Her world that she had formed was about to collapse, but she knew she had one friend. She dropped her duffel bag and backpack on her bed and sat down. She pulled out a book and read.
"Summer?" Her dad called. "You almost ready for school?"
Summer looked at the time, she was usually downstairs by now. She ran down the stairs with her backpack.
"That looks a little fuller than normal." Her dad remarked.
"Extra homework."
"Oh."
After a minute of silence, he broke in. "You know that me and your mother love you right. We would never want to hurt you. You know that right?"
"Ya Dad, I know." Her heart shattered as she said that. She was about to leave him for who knows how long, possibly forever. She walked over and hugged him tight. It was rare that she showed any affection toward her family and it took her dad by surprise.
"I'm glad you know that sweetheart."
"I love you dad." She said and headed upstairs one more time.
"Bye girls, I love you." She said to her sisters as she pulled them into a hug.
She looked around her room. It held so many memories. From the walls her and Ava, her old friend, had painted to resemble the mauraders map from Harry Potter. The carpet she had watched her dad put in. The beat up dresser she had gotten from her grandmother. She stifled a sob and grabbed her bag. She pulled on shoes and left the house. As she walked away towards school a tear crept down her cheek. She stopped for a minute to look back.
"Goodbye" she whispered.
