Summer closed the door behind her and adjusted her backpack. She started her walk to school. Her hoodie hid the bandage that wrapped around her gun wound and she was trying her best not to limp. The woods made her shiver. She knew that someone had attacked her in the woods and no stupid detective was going to tell her otherwise. The fist she was making was crushing the granola bar she had brought for breakfast. She unwrapped it and took a bite. The silence called her and she pulled out her cell phone. Like usual, she had no new texts. She wished she had brought it with her when she went swimming, but she forgot. She took another bite of the granola bar. She half heartedly chewed and swallowed before deciding she wasn't hungry.

Summer opened the doors to the school and made her way to her locker. She looked around for Austin, but it didn't seem like he was here. None of the other kids at the lake seemed to be here either. She tossed her half of the granola bar in the garbage. When she got to her locker, there was a small group of people around it. She put her head down and continued to unload her books. Once she had what she needed she turned to go, but was stopped. "Hey Summer!" A voice called out, and she soon realized it was Austin's. She spun around. "Man, you look tired, not bad, but tired. How late did you stay at the lake?"
"Well, umn, about that,"
Austin turned to the guy he was talking to."Any way man, I'll catch you later."
As the guy walked away, Austin walked over to Summer and grabbed her arms. After examining her, he said, "How are you not dead?"
"What?"
Austin  shook his head, "We can't talk about it here. Meet me here after lunch, ok?"
Summer nodded. "Sorry, but do you mind not holding so tight, my arm got hurt."
"Sorry! Sorry." He let go and walked away.
She stood there for a minute, but moved on. At lunch she would finally get some answers.

"Ok, so what are you going to tell me?" Summer asked Austin.
"No, not here, to many people listening." He grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him as he searched for a place to talk. Normally she would have been going crazy over the fact that someone was holding her hand, but the fact this someone thought she might have been dead kind of turned off that reaction.
"Perfect" He murdered as he opened an unlocked janitors closet. He dragged her inside and then pushed her against a wall. He put his hands just above her shoulders and created a wall between her and the door.
"Tell me everything that happened after I left on Saturday."
So Summer began to tell him everything that happened, and after he was done a smirk crossed his face.
"So you mean to tell me that you hear off a group of trained teens half blind and barely able to walk? Have you taken any classes or anything like that before?"
"No, I do read though."
He smiled at her "I knew you were special." He said. Summer wasn't sure if he was talking to her or to himself.
"Now," she began, "time to answer my questions."
"I suppose that that is fair."
"Why were they trying to hurt me?"
Austin ran a hand through his hair and returned it to its spot over her shoulder. "Yes, that is a good question, but I'm sure that you have other ones. Like why did you see words over my head."
"Yes that's another question."
"Well, let me answer that one first. You see Summer, when you were little, you were in a bad accident. You were rushed to emergency surgery. Now I'm not a doctor and I wasn't given the full amount of details, but I know they had to replace part of your scull with a certain metal. This metal can interact with brain waves, and intercept them in a way. I'm not sure how, but this causes you to see other people's thoughts. This is why the government wants you."
"Hold on," Summer began "I can see other people's thoughts? And the  government wants me?"
"Yes, exactly, except somethingin your glasses prevents you from seeing the thoughts. We're not really sure how, though."
"Who is we?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I work for the government."
Summer tried to back away, but realized that she was against a wall.
"No, it's okay, I want to help you. I think what they're trying to do is wrong."
"What are they trying to do?"
"Well, they believe that capturing you and taking that metal out of your head will help them read the minds of the citizens of the U.S. and the diplomats of the other countries. They also believe that they can tamper with the metal and bend the brain waves of these people."
"So, control their thoughts?"
"Exactly."
Summer hung her head. It seemed heavy with all the new news. Austin's hand fell to her shoulder.
"Its ok. They won't get you. Not before we get them."
She lifted her head. "What do you mean, before we get them?"
"You're going to help me stop them right?"
"Yes! No. Maybe. I'm not sure. This is a lot of news."
"You just have to say yes."
"I don't know if I can though."
"Yes you can. I can protect you and you can help me take these people down! It's easy when you think about it."
"I don't know. I mean, just give me time."
Austin shoved his hands on his pockets, trying to hide his disappointment. "Ya, sure here's my number. Just text me if you need anythng."
Summer grabbed the sticky note he held out, and turned to leave.
"I'll have more information for you soon. I mean if you want it."
Summer smiled and nodded. "Thanks Austin."
