The school parking lot was filled with people making their way into the building. Summer weaved in between parked busses. She wasn't sure if she was allowed, but she didn't care. Currently nothing mattered except getting to Austin and figuring out what the plan was. She sighed and rubbed her eyes under her glasses. Halfway to school she stopped crying, after she remembered what she had told herself the night before. She decided that this called for another sigh. Mid-sigh she was grabbed by the arm. She squeaked from surprise, but then screamed after seeing who had grabbed her.
"Ava Hartley, is that you?" She said as she faced her old best friend.
"Summer! I missed you!"
Summer felt herself being pulled into a massive hug. She missed Ava so much. She pushed away and examined her. Her dirty blonde hair hung messily around her face and her green eyes were bloodshot. To finish off her look, she wore a dark grey hoodie with the hood up.
"What are you doing here?" Summer questioned.
"Well, I was checking up on you."
"How did you know I was here? How did you find me?"
"Well, I went to college early and got a job at a computer repair company. It happens that on the day you had an appointment at the therapist, I was there fixing the computer. I heard doctor Mavis flip out at you and i may have dug up your records. So now I'm here!"
"Wow. You went to college? How, we're only a year apart?"
"Tests, classes, meetings, blah blah blah. My mom took care of it."
Ava had always been extremely smart. She had excelled in class and had developed a love for computers. Summer glanced at her phone.
"Dang, I got to go. Meet me here, right after school." She said as she jogged into the building.
"Wait!" Ava called, but Summer ignored her. She ran to her locker and shoved her stuff inside. She felt someone grab her arm. Austin spun her around to face him.
"Do you have everything?" He hissed.
"Ya, chill."
"Are you going to be okay? You packed everything needed, right? "
"Yup and yup."
"Are you sure you're ready?"
"Austin, stop asking questions or else I might start regretting this."
"Okay, I just want to make sure that everything will be fine."
She smiled at him. "So are we like just going to leave like as soon as school is over, and is it just going to be me and you?"
"Ya, after school. And I have a friend I was planning on inviting."
"Cool."
"You two should be getting to class." A teacher warned them as she passed.
They both nodded and started on the way to their first class.
"Austin, how old are you?" Summer asked. He had to be at least a year or two older than him.
"Seventeen, why?"
"How are we in the same class?"
"Who practically owns all schools?"
"What? I don't know!"
"The government stupid!"
Summer laughed. "Well when you put it like that it makes sense!"
"You're a lot calmer than I thought you would be."
"If I start crying now, i may not stop."
"Then do me a favor and don't cry."
"Is it really that bad?"
"No, well yes, it's just because I have no clue what to do when people are crying."
"Hahaha, same."
They turned the last corner before the classroom.
"Well, looks like I've got to go be popular now."
"See ya."
Summer took a seat and class began.¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
"Mr. Heiberg?" Summer called quietly, and winced as half the class turned to face her.
"Yes Miss Akkesson?" He anwered, his voice wavering. Her parents had informed the teacher of Summer's incident by the lake, and they all seemed terrified of her.
"May I use the bathroom?" She said.
"Yes" He flinched as she got up and she quietly left. When she got to the bathroom, she walked up to the mirror. She didn't have to go, but she needed to calm her nerves.
"Breathe Summer breathe." She told herself, wondering how she would be able to get through the day. She jumped as someone entered the bathroom. A tall blonde woman with a fake tan that made her look orange was standing in the doorway. Summer quickly pretended that she was turning off the faucet.
"Hello Miss Akkesson." The woman greeted her.
"Umm hello." She said.
Summer went to walk out the door, but was blocked by the lady.
"Excuse me." She said and tried to pass again, but was blocked once again. "I'm sorry ma'am I really should be getting back to class."
"No, miss Akkesson. You shouldn't be going anywhere, you freak."
Summer pulled her glasses off of her face. The words above her head said take her. Summer jumped back and ran into the counter. She grabbed her hip, but managed to hobble back against the wall. The woman charged her and Summer ducked into the nearest stall. The teacher followed her. Summer climbed on to the toilet before jumping into the next stall. She ran for door but was tackled by the lady.
"You're not going to get away from me, you freak."
The lady was kneeling on Summer's back. She was shoving Summer's face into the tile floor. Summer struggled to get her off but couldn't, so she tried to scream. Her head was raised for a split second before being slammed into the floor. She felt her nose crack and a group of stars burst into her vision. Suddenly the teachers weight was lifted off of her. She scrambled to lean against the wall and saw Austin holding the lady in a choke hold. Eventually she passed out.
"You okay?" He asked Summer as he walked over to her.
"I'm fine" she said, swiping at her nose. A streak of blood was across her arm. She walked over to the mirror and proceeded to clean off her face and arm.
"The sooner we get out of here the better." Austin whispered to her. She nodded. He turned her around to examine her nose.
"It looks like a simple fracture."
He grabbed her nose and moved it straight again. She stifled a hiss of pain as the cartilage went back into place.
"I have an instant ice pack in my locker." He said, leading her out of the bathroom.
"Why?"
"If I'm a person who has been put in danger numerous times, why wouldn't I?"
When they arrived at his locker he searched in his locker for a minute. He grabbed it and activated it, and proceeded to holding it against her nose.
"We need to leave now." Austin told me.
"No! We can't yet!"
"Oh no." He groaned. "You're not having second thoughts, are you?"
"No. We just can't leave yet." She told him, thinking back to her meeting with Ava.
"Yes we can. We're getting your stuff and leaving." He took off towards her locker and she ran behind him.
"You realize that you can't get into my locker without my combination." Summer pointed out.
"Seriously Summer? Please! I'm trying to help you."
"We need to stay."
"No!" He yelled, and clapped his hand over his mouth after realizing his mistake. A classroom door swung open and a teacher came up to us. Summer smirked at Austin.
"Skipping class are we?" The teacher asked.
"Sir I promise it's not what it looks like!" Austin started.
"It looks like you're skipping class." He said.
"Looks like we'll have to go back to class!" Summer said, a bit to happy maybe.
"Not only that Miss Akkesson, You'll both be serving detention after school today."
