The door opened slowly and Summer and Austin squinted against the much brighter light.
"Get up and get over here." A man commanded
Quickly, they obeyed and scrambled towards him. He handcuffed them and smiled "time for your hearing! Aren't you excited?"
"Absolutely ecstatic." Summer retorted.
Austin looked like he wouldve killed someone as he was forced to obey this man but a look from summer told him he'd better not.
"Now, were just gonna place some nice comfy bags over both of your heads then take you to the headquarters." The guard said.
"So is this your guest home then?" Austin said as a bag was shoved over his head.
"One of many." The man laughed and pulled another bag over Summers head.
They did some more walking and were led to a car where Summer and Austin sat in the back seats.
The ride was quiet, a radio played quietly in the background and Summer used the quiet to think.
It was simple, they just had to go in, control the minds of who knows how many people, and win. That's as simple as it gets, right?
She leaned against Austin and placed her handcuffed hands on his lap.
He rested his head on hers and she smiled. It had been so long since she'd had a best friend it was a nice change.
Soon, the car pulled to a stop and they were pulled out of it. The bags were yanked off of their heads and, once again, they were blinded by light.
They were on the top of a parking garage and were led to an elevator.
Instead of pushing a number, the man punched a red button and spoke into it.
"We have the kids for their hearings with the head. Tursk."
A voice buzzed through a speaker. "Very good. Lowering you to the head."
The elevator fell slowly and Summer shifted on her feet to keep her energy moving. She was ready to fight and being patient grew harder every second.
A ding rang off of the walls and the door opened into a dark hall.
The man pulled them to the end where a door was. He kn pxocked before opening it, pushing the two inside, and locking it behind them. There was a long table in the center and at the end was a woman. She wore a crooked grin and tapped her acrylic nails on the table.
Austin looked at Summer who wore a deadly glare.
"Hello summer!" The woman smiled.
"Mother" summer spat.
Austin looked back and forth from the two. This was Aubrey Akkesson? She looked so- how do you say- average.
"Pleade, honey, you and your friend may have a seat." Mrs Akkeson motioned to the table and sat in her own chair. Summer dragged Austin to the chair next to her and had him sit.
He examined the room and counted exits: one, the door they came in. There were two men, armed with who knows what.
Summer seemed to have noticed and was wearing a concerned look.
"So hun, let's get down to business." Mrs Akkeson smiled.
Summer slammed her fists on the table and stood up "Stop talking to me like you care! You are not my mother! You betrayed me!"
The guards stepped closer and Austin pulled Summer onto the chair and scooted closer to her.
"Not yet" he murmured.
She breathed a frustrated sigh and leaned back.
"Well" Mrs Akkeson began "I suppose this may be harder then I imagined."
"Just tell us what you need to tell us." Austin said.
She stood up "well, Summer, I see there is no need for me to tell you of your gift as Austin already has.
I am supposed to inform you of your fate. Summer, you will not be leaving here as a free woman again, Austin, you will be sent to another hearing where they will decide what to do with you."
"Well isn't that just dandy." Summer muttered.
"I'm not leaving Summer." Austin furrowed his brow "I can't just leave her here not knowing what will happen."
Mrs Akkesson smiled "In that case.Summer will undergo some tests then we will use her as a device to control others while she is, well, less-than-consious."
Austin's grip tightened on Summers chair. "That's not what I meant. I'm not letting her stay here with you."
"She'll be fine. She is my daughter after all."
Summer laughed "I am not your daughter. Real mothers don't betray their daughters."
"Technically, you're adopted."
Summer threw her hands up "Well isn't today just tell your daughter all the secrets you kept from her the first fifteen years of her life day! Oh wait, I'm not your daughter!"
"You're not fifteen either, it's June second." Mrs Akkesson smiled.
"Looks like my sweet sixteen was spent in some millionaires basement."
"Summer," Mrs Akkeson said "I was only placed here to hide and protect you until we thought you were ready to be placed into the Sways path."
"Really? Than what was Austin's job for?"
"Well, I disappeared off the Sways grid under the suggestion of another member and they were technically trying to find me also, then I told them where we were."
"Than how are you the head?" Summer asked
"And who is this person?" Austin added.
"Well, once you hand in a 'Most wanted' and the fact that you helped develop the technology to create her powers basically give you the lead. I could amplify her power at any second and I plan to, so I can sway the minds of those who believe wrong."
"Who helped you?" Austin demanded.
"She's dead now. She always was like a grandmother to me and she was as old as a grandmother too." She let out a chuckle "A feisty old lady who was as brilliant as she was funny. It was the doctors wife."
"Oh" Austin said.
Mrs Akkesson walked over to them and grabbed summer's arm. "Time to go, I've already used too much time."
Summer shot a questioning look at Austin.
"Now!" He yelled.
Summer rewrote the guards thoughts and watched as they dropped like two rocks. She turned to her mother, but she was behind another guard. Summer rewrote his thoughts but as she focused on Mrs Akkesons thoughts Austins call demanded her attention.
Men piled into the room and began to surround Austin, Summer and her mom.
Mrs Akkesson laughed and walked over to them
"Nice try Summer, but it's time to go home with mommy."
Summer slapped her, hard, "I've told you once. I've told you twice. I'm telling you again. You. Are. Not. My. Mother. A real mother is kind and loving and honest. She doesn't betray her child for power." Tears filled her eyes "A real mother would care that one of her daughter's just died."
Mrs Akkeson went pale "Died? What go you mean?"
"Morgan. I found her dead in her room. One of your pawns near her to death." Her voice shook as she pictured her sister and a year threatened to fall. Austin grabbed her hand and squeezed it.
"You aren't my mother. You aren't anyone's mother. You are a monster. And I hope that whatever fate you're sentenced to, is hell."
"There will be no sentence, we are taking you in." Mrs Akkesson said flatly.
"Think again. Literally." Summer pushed Austin down and strengthened her brain waves. She rewrite the thoughts of everyone standing and watched as they fell one by one.
Mrs Akkesson was the last to fall. Summer smiled at her as her knees gave way, "I hope you burn, you monster."¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
