Summer was curled up in one of the chairs and watched as the police escorted the men from the room. Mrs Akkesson had left first and Summer was assured that she wouldn't be seeing her again.
Austin was telling one of the detectives what had happened.
Summer had already told her story and was resting. She had a killer headache from the absence of her glasses and the strain she had placed her brain under.
At least it was over.
Finally over.
Her life would go back to normal, well a normal life without a mother figure and without one of her sisters.
Her heart ached like it was about to break from everything that had happened.
All of it was killing her.
Austin walked over to her and keeled in front of her
"Hey." He smiled.
"Hey" she looked up at the ceiling and examined the air vent.
"You okay?"
"Far from it."
"Wanna go talk?"
She slid out of the chair "more than anything."
They took the elevator to ground level after telling the police and Austin led them down a couple blocks to a park.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"My head hurts."
He chuckled. "Okay, what else?"
"My heart hurts."
Austin examined her face. She looked to old to b sixteen. Too many heartaches and too much trouble.
"What's making it hurt?"
She sighed. "Everything that happened. My sister's death. My mom, no, Aubrey, betraying me. Ava leaving."
"I'm sorry"
"No Austin, you have no reason to be sorry. You're the reason I was able to pull this off. You decided to give up your legacy and protect me. All I needed was you and a little bit of anger."
Her eyes looked tired as she drew a sad breath and he knew that she hurt.
She was so sad. He knew she needed to be wrapped in a hug and cry. So that's what he did.
As soon as she was in his arms her years began to fall. It was a waterfall of emotions. Relief, joy, sorrow, but waterfalls are pretty no matter what.
She wrapped her arms around him and sobbed.
They stood in the middle of the park for who knows how long. The stars shone down and have Austin hope that Summer would be okay.
She eventually pulled back but not out of his arms.
"You know Summer, when you first cried in front of me I said that you definitely weren't an ugly crier."
She sniffed and laughed a little "yeah, I remember that."
"Well, you're a beautiful crier. Your tears are like reflections of pain that entered into you that you didn't let break you."
"Wow, that's really poetic." She laughed.
"I know, I'm basically a prodigy."
She smiled and took his hand and began to walk. "This reminds me of a book."
"You and your books"
She threw her head back and laughed. Part of her wanted to sleep for days, but the other part wanted to dance.
Instead of breaking out into a full out dance she twirled, allowing her brown curls to float around her head.
Austin smiled at her and she stopped spinning to grin back.
"Summer, you're the king of girl people would read books about."
"That's the best complement anyone's ever given me."
"Glad that it was me then."
"Well, you're the bestest friend in the history of best friends."
"Bestest friend. I like that."
They walked around the park, staring at the sky and making wishes.
Austin kept thinking of how she called him her bestest friend. Even though he was happy about it, he was disappointed about being only a friend.
Every time he looked at her, he wished to be more than that. But let's not get all lovey dovey, right?
Oh, what the heck.
Summer looked at him and noticed how he was smiling at her and was mad that it made her blush.
She looked away and pulled a curl in front of her face.
Austin sighed and went in to kiss her cheek, but she managed to turn her face at the exact same minute and next thing they knew, they were kissing.
Summer laughed "so much for bestest friend right?"
"So much for that!" Austin laughed "This is much better!"
She laughed and let him pull her in for another kiss.¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
