Meanwhile, Austin drove through the town to the hotel furthest away from the Paisley's. He pulled up into the dimly lit parking lot. He turned a flashlight on and cleaned anywhere his or Summer's firgers would have touched. After that he took a look around and sighed. He was gonna miss this truck. He pulled a ten dollar bill out of his glove box and stuck it in his wallet. He closed the door and slashed his tired to make it appear as if he had to ditch it. He walked a few blocks down to a gas station. He withdrew 2500$ out of his dad's bank account and used five of the ten dollars to buy a lighter. He took the lighter to the bathroom and melted his credit card, debit card, Id, drivers license, and even his library card. He then flushed one down each toilet. He walked back out and bought a prepaid cell phone. He also bought some snacks, drinks, a pack of gum, and three matching beanies (for looks). He then walked down a few more blocks and got on the bus. After it went a little way Austin got out and boarded another bus. He then walked the rest of the way.
When he got to the Paisley's he turned back around and sighed. He has destroyed all traces of himself. This had better work.¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Connor had begun to nod off when Summer told him that he should probably get to bed. He nodded and clumsily made his way to his room. Summer closed the door and continued to read. She soon felt her eyelids grow heavy and turned the light off. As she lay in bed thoughts of the book she had read came back. Every move now sounded like a killer. A shadow that crept across the wall threatened her. Her imagination went wild and soon she was curled up in bed with A pillow over her head. The door swung open and she squeaked before tumbling out of bed. Austin walked over to her laughing.
"Are you okay?" He asked while hoisting her up onto the bed.
"You scared me!"
"Really? I hadn't noticed!" He chuckled.
Summer shook her head.
"Am I really that scary?" He asked her sitting next to her.
"No. I read a book that freaked me out."
"What book?"
"It was called 'It' by Stephen King."
"Oh! I saw that movie. It's a little old, but whatever."
"Did it not scare you?"
"I've trained myself not to be scared easy, or at least not to show it."
Summer cocked her head "Are you scared now? You know, you just left everything you know behind, that kinda makes you as wanted as me."
"Summer, I can't be scared. I won't let myself be scared. It could distract me."
"Oh."
"Are you scared?"
Summer sighed. "I'm terrified Austin. This is the most scared I've ever been."
"Good. It's smart to be terrified."
"But you aren't terrified."
"I'm being stupid then."
"No, you're not. You're keeping your mind clear. You can be brave and clear- headed and I'll be scared and smart."
He smiled "what does that make Connor?"
"I don't know."
"Annoying and weird."
"That could describe both of you just fine."
Austin laughed and Summer joined in. "Everything will be fine. I know it." Austin said
"I hope that's true."
"It is."
"What are we going to do? People must have noticed that we're missing by now."
"Let's figure it out tomorrow."
"Okay."
"I'm going to bed now, but if you get scared or anything, I'm right down the hall." Austin said before walking to the door. "Good night Summer."
"Night Austin"
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤Summer woke up around seven the next morning. She showered and changed. When she walked back into the bathroom her natural curls had formed again. She groaned and regretted not bringing her straightener. She put on the waterproof mascara, brushed her hair, and headed upstairs. Austin and Connor were sitting by the T.v. Austin turned to Summer. "Wow. You brought a curling iron with you? Some girls and their hair."
Summer blushed "This is my natural hair. I normally straighten it."
"Oh!" Austin said "It looks nice."
"Thanks."
"Umm guys," Connor said "I hate to break this up but you may want to look at this." Austin and Summer turned to the T.v. and read the headline. Matching looks of horror spread across their faces. The headline read Two teens go missing. Austin grabbed the remote and turned up the volume. A tall lady with brown hair was talking to the camera.
"Yesterday two teens were reported missing from Pine View High school. They were supposed to serve detentions but disappeared from the school grounds. The teachers searched the premises for them but found nothing. They didn't pick up their cell phones when they were called. Their names are Sumker Akkeson and Austin Lyons. If you have any details regarding these two, please call. Now, an exclusive interview with Aubrey Akkesson, Summer's mother."
The camera shifted to a scene of Mrs Akkesson standing outside of Summer's home holding a microphone. Looking barely concerned.
"I'm honestly not surprised that my daughter ran away. I've been expecting it to be completely honest. She is a little mental if you ask me. Her sanity has been going lately, making up stories, crying for no reason, and now this. I believe it's because she doesn't have any friends. She's quite shy. I will be happy when she comes back, which will be soon, no doubt. Until then, I'll enjoy a quiet household."
Summer shut the T.v. off and fell onto the small couch they had. Her fingernails dug into her palms and she chewed on her lip.
"I can't believe her" she muttered.
"I'm so sorry, Summer." Austin said and sat down next to her.
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. Let's just figure out what we're going to do."
Connor sat on the other side of her.
"Here's what I've been thinking." Austin began.
