"We need to get the government off of your tail. The only way we can do that is by destroying what they want." Austin said
Summer raised an eyebrow "How are we gonna get a piece of metal out of my head?"
"That's the tricky part. I know someone. He owes my family, and he can help us."
Connor cleared his throat "So we're going to go to some random guy who owes you and convince him to do surgery on Summer?"
"Basically"
"I can't believe that this is how you live."
"Start believing. What we're going to do is travel inconspiculously. Stay quiet. He lives near Bethesda in Maryland . which is a day and a half journey from here in Lafeyette, Louisiana."
"How will we get there?"
"We'll leave in an hour, travel eleven hours, sleep at a hotel, and leave at six am tomorrow morning. We'll get there by noon tomorrow. Connor, can we use your truck?"
"If you pay for gas."
"Deal, now get packed up and ready to go. We'll stop for lunch and two bathroom breaks, and sleep in concord. Any questions?"
Summer and Connor shook their heads.
"Okay, go pack up!"

Summer didn't know what else to do. She had packed and are a quick breakfast and still had half an hour until Austin said they were leaving. She sat in the middle of the guest bed and played with her hair. This was happening so fast; just last week she was a normal teenage girl and now, she was on the run from some very powerful people. She couldn't let them catch her, not a chance. If they did, they would use it to control innocent people, for who knows what. She made a mental note to ask Austin later. She laughed to herself, this is crazy! She thought, I'm a normal teenage girl. on the run from the government. Hahaha, ya, normal. What would the twins think if they knew? Her chest ached just thinking about her family. Her sisters and Dad that she may not see again. Her mom, who had betrayed her. Summer clenched her teeth and put her face in her hands.
"Doing some hardcore thinking?" Connor asked from the doorway.
Summer looked up "ya, you could say that."
He smiled brightly "Austin came to see how long you would be."
"I'm ready when you guys are."
"Good, I just gotta go tell mom where we're going for this 'vacation'."
Summer laughed and pulled herself out of the bed "I'll go wait upstairs, then."
"Okay."
She grabbed her duffel bag and hung the strap over her shoulder. This was going to be interesting; A roadtrip with two people she's just met. As she walked up the stairs she noticed how much Connor looked like his mom and his dad. His hair was darker like his dad's but his eyes had the same joking twinkle as his mom's. Summer silently wondered if Austin looked like his family. She looked nothing like her family; they all had light hair and had perfect vision. One time her dad had told her she was adopted, but a her worried looking mom cleared that up. She laughed and continued up the stairs. Austin took her duffel back to the truck and when Connor limped his way outside, they were on their way.
Summer say in between the two guys and listened as they talked. They were so light hearted and she didn't understand how. She felt as if there was a crushing weight placed on her and there was nothing she could do about it. Austin laughed loudly, interrupting Summers thoughts. Connor crossed his arms and turned towards the window. Summer laughed quietly and Austin yelled "I told you that it would get her attention!"
She furrowed her eyebrows "what?"
"You weren't responding to us, so we decided to get your attention by using drama. Girls love drama, don't they? I mean why else would they watch shows like the bachelor and stuff." Connor informed her.
"I do not watch The Bachelor. I read, remember?"
"Oh yeah. Austin's the one who watches it."
Austin rolled his eyes "Whatever, at least I didn't do ballet."
"It was meant for physical therapy for my foot! And you know I hated it!" Connor objected.
"You were in tears when they told you that you couldn't wear a tutu."
"Those were tears of joy!"
"Sureee"
Summer reached in front of her and turned the radio on. Connor threw his hands over his ears "no! Not pop music!"
"Anything is better than you two fughting." She laughed
"He's just jealous because he can't sing like me." Austin said
And that's how a mini version of the voice started in the truck. Austin started dancing in his seat and Connor complained how it wasn't fair because he could get them in a car wreck if he took his hands off of the wheel. The best part was when they did a duet to California Gurls by Katy Perry. Summer laughed so hard she snorted.

Mrs Paisley sighed as she heard a knock on the door. When will that stupid salesman give up? She thought. Normally she would have Connor get it because he had not patience with people than she could ever have. It was different with kids like Summer and Austin because she would do anything possible to make their lives better. They were only teens, after all. She opened the door and opened her mouth to tell the salesman for the millionth time that she was not interested, but was greeted by a tall, blonde girl in darker clothing.
"Do you need something, sweetheart?" She asked the girl.
The girl readjusted her hood, "hello, are you Mrs Paisley? My name is Ava and I'm looking for my friend Summer."
"Yes I am. Your friend just left on a little vacation with another friend of hers."
"How long ago?"
"An hour-ish"
"Did they say where they're going?"
"Long distance, to WashingtonD.C., but they're stopping at Charelotte N.C. tonight."
"Okay, thanks."
"Are you okay, Ava?"
"I'm sorry, I'm just worried for my friend. She's been having difficulties for a while now."
"Yes, poor girl."
"Thank you again Mrs Paisley, I should be going now."
"Good luck finding Summer"
"Thanks."
