After I got a pair of Ocean's old sweatpants for Eric to change into, we headed to Sonic to meet River and mom. I explained to Eric how I'd discovered I was a mermaid, so she would know my mom would understand. We reached Sonic and started to order. I got a cherry limeade and a hotdog. Eric did too, claiming there weren't any Sonic's where he was from. When we had pstarted eating, mom's car pulled up. River raced out and ran to hug me. "Crystal!!" He finished hugging me and stared at Eric. "He's... a friend." I answered. When mom got out of the car, I explained Eric's situation to her in private. She nodded when I asked if he could stay. She told me that she had something to give me that used to be my dad's. They ordered and we ate. Only then did Mom look me in the eye. When she did, she dropped her slushy on the ground. "What'd you do to your eyes?!" She handed me her compact mirror and I stared. My usual blue had turned to Eric's green! I turned to Eric; maybe he had something to do with this. His eyes.... they were my blue! I handed Eric the mirror and he looked at himself. What just happened? He mouthed. I shrugged and faced mom. "I need that book." That might be the only way I could figure out what was happening to Eric and I.
