"Oh my starfish." Okay, so that just slipped out of my mouth uncontrollably. My eyes widened and my hand raced up to cover my mouth. Eric smiled and laughed. "It's okay. That same thing happened to me in the cave yesterday." I turned to face Eric. "Was your mom or dad a mer?" Eric shook his head. "My parents abandoned me when I was five. Even then, it was always just my mom." "Oh. I'm sorry." I said quietly. "I'm alright, really. Any way, what'd you find in that book?" I handed it to him and braced myself for when he read the Blood Mates section. I was calmly sitting on the edge of my mom's bed, but the inside of my head was racing. Eric was my blood mate!! He had to be, right? He had my same birthday, and what about our eyes?! He finished reading and stared at me for a long time. Then, a gust of wind hit me in the face and I staggered back. As I turned to face Eric, I asked "You realized, right?". He nodded his head and I watched his eyes flash back to their breathtaking green. We bolted outside and swam until night. When we came home, I went to the bathroom to brush my hair and teeth. Eric walked past me to get to the guest room, and when I looked in the mirror, my eyes flashed aquamarine.
