And here we are, the next major time skip of the book! Four years have passed, and Rythian's feelings for Zoey have grown, while Zoey grows more and more confused about her feelings for Rythian. It is the day after Rythian's 18th birthday, and he is very distant from Zoey. On with the story!

My birthday was yesterday, I know that he will be back for me soon. Today, tomorrow, I don't know when. But I do know that Zoey will know the truth when I am taken, whether I tell her or Xephos. And I know that she will hate me then, think of me as the monster I know I am. She doesn't know why I've been distant, but I have been thinking, hard. I know that it is futile to have feelings for her, because even if she feels the same way, she will have to marry a prince, not a servant. And that is all I am, a simple servant with a big job. I'll be dead before Zoey is 18 anyways. I can't help but wonder; when the time comes for my arrest, even though I know there is no hope of my second escape, will I fight?

I sit back and read the entry to my journal, pondering the question as I slip it into my bag. Will I fight? Or will I simply let them take me away without a word? I will not have anything to say, but perhaps Zoey will? Lomadia or Xephos? But whatever they say, I am guilty, it has been proven, and I will still have to face my punishment. Execution.

I am pulled from my thoughts by a frantic banging on the door. I open it and Zoey runs in, closing the door behind her and quickly locking it. "Rythian, Springfeld guards are here, they say that they are taking you. Is it really true?" I simply nod. They are here, now. I must make a decision, and fast. "Zoey, four years ago I told you that I would die before my 19th birthday. And it will happen. But I will try to draw out my life as long as I can. Goodbye, Zoey." Before she can react, I'm jumping out my window and running into the forest.

I run through the forest, thoughts of my friends filling my mind. I reach the campsite, and Toby is there, sword in hand. He quickly shoves me into his tent before following, sealing the flap shut. Martyn is already inside, waiting for me. "Rythian, what are you going to do?" Toby asks, sitting next to Martyn. "I don't know." I admit. "I want to live, but I deserve to die. I want to stay, to protect Zoey, but I don't deserve to even know her. I want to run, but I don't deserve the chance." Martyn puts a hand on my shoulder. "Rythian, I don't even know what you did, but make your decision about it now. They are coming through the forest, and they will be here in moments." Sure enough, footsteps approach, accompanied by yelling. "Martyn, Toby, I will miss you both dearly. But I cannot escape now, they are here. Goodbye. And Martyn," I pause for a moment as he looks at me. "What did I do, that warrants execution? I am a murderer." At that, I open the tent and walk outside, to immediately be surrounded by guards.

~Zoey's POV~

Rythian jumps out of his window, and I run out of his room, down the hall to the throne room, where my mother and father sit. They look at me worriedly, as do the Springfeld guards near the door. "Rythian is gone! He jumped out of his window!" I say frantically. The Springfeld guards disappear, and I run up to my mother. "Mother, what did Rythian do? Why does Lalna want him dead?" She shakes her head. "Lalna believes that Rythian's life is worth all of the lives lost in his kingdom." I am so confused right now, I can't even explain it. "What do you mean? What does Rythian have to do with anyone's death, other than his own mother's? He didn't kill anyone!" I exclaim. "Oh, princess, but that's where you're wrong" A new voice says.

I turn to see Lalna walking through the door, followed by three guards and a young man. His hands are bound behind his back, and there is one guard behind him, one on each side. And even with the mask, I can see the frown he wears. I turn back to Lalna, who smirks. "Rythian's mother wasn't the only person who died that day. 6 innocent men died that day as well." Rythian's eyes shoot up, and he struggles against the men holding him back. "Innocent?! You call them innocent?!?! Those men killed my mother for a crime she never commited!!!! And you call them innocent?!?!?!" He yells, fighting the guards. The guard behind him, the one not holding him back, pulls out a whip and cracks it against Rythian's back. Rythian screams in pain and stops fighting. Lalna turns to Rythian and smiles. "Oh Rythian, Rythian. One of those men was he executioner, true. But the others were guards, sent to keep anyone from interfering. They had families, and that day, they all died. And," Lalna turns away from Rythian and looks me in the eyes. "Do you know who killed those men? Those 5 guards and an executioner?" He smirks again and points at Rythian. "He did. Your oh so precious Rythian, the innocent bodyguard of Blackrock's treasured princess, is a murderer. He killed 6 people, Zoeya. And his life will not make up for thoselost, but it will be pretty close." I look at Rythian in disbelief, and he hangs his head, refusing to meet my eyes. He was a murderer, he killed 6 people, and Lalna accused him of this. But Rythian didn't even bother denying it.
