Love was a Dangerous Game...

This Imagine idea was actually requested by the lovely johnthackery, hope I do your idea justice! :)

"What do you MEAN you haven't met this guy?!" Your best friend Mark asked from the other side of your closed bedroom door as you rifled through your closet. You had created an account on eharmony.com in hopes of finding love, much to Mark's dismay. What could you say, going out there and physically meeting guys at bars was just not working for you! It's not your fault guys decided to be complete douchebags!

A few days ago, you met Jesse through eharmony. He was a successful business owner and actually seemed to have respect for woman, so tonight was the night the two of you agreed to go out. You had just told Mark about the whole date twenty minutes ago when you saw you needed to get ready. Obviously, Mark wasn't taking the news well.

"I met this guy online? Remember? I told you I was going to try online dating!" You spoke to Mark as you finally found the perfect outfit; a white lace dress with sleeves that went to your elbow with a pair of black heels.

"Well, I didn't think you'd actually go through with it!" You could perfectly picture Mark gesturing with his hands wildly on the other side of the door. "Do you realize how unsafe this entire thing is? You haven't met the guy, and you're going to a bar with him on a Saturday night where he can advantage of you."

"First of all, it's a pretty popular bar so I doubt he's going to take advantage of me-"

"You don't know that," Mark grumbled under his breath. You thought about calling him out on it but decided against it.

"And second, I do know how to take care of myself." Once you finished zipping up your dress, you slipped on your heels then walked over towards the door. When you opened it, you saw Mark leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Look, I'm going on this date whether you like it or not Mark. How else am I suppose to meet someone if I don't go out there and try, huh? Am I just suppose to stay single for the rest of my life? Cause if that's the case, I'll just start getting the seven cats now." Mark mumbled something under his breath, but you couldn't quite make it out.

"I've got to get going, I'll call you tonight when I get home!" You called out to him as you started walking towards the door.

"That is if he doesn't kidnap you!" You rolled your eyes as you finally exited your house for the date. Sometimes, Mark was more of a drama queen than a teenage girl.

(A few hours later)

You beamed with joy as you sat across from Jesse. The night couldn't have been more perfect, so far. Throughout the entire night, Jesse was the perfect gentlemen who pulled your chair out and even let you order the wine. That wasn't all, though. Jesse was genuine, compared to the other guys that you've been with recently. He honestly cared about what was going on in your life AND he was drop dead gorgeous! You had to stop yourself from laughing out loud several times throughout the dinner. How does it feel to be wrong, Mark huh?

"So tell me something," Jesse asks you, his bright gray eyes sparkling brightly. "What did you honestly think when we originally agreed to meet up?"

"Honestly? I was completely fine with it, my best friend? Not so much." You found yourself chuckling slightly as you took another sip of wine.

"Oh, your best friend is the protective type, huh?"

"You have no idea! You'd swear that he was my father not wanting his little girl to go on their first date." You cleared your throat before speaking again. "I wouldn't ask for it any other way. I can't really blame him, though, I've been through some shitty relationships in the past and he's just looking out for me."

"Do I have the privilege of knowing what those past relationships were like?"

"Nope, that's strictly third date info."

"I guess I'm going to have to stick around until then." The two of us laughed before Jesse continued talking. "It sounds like your best friend really cares about you, and wants the best for you. You can't get mad at a guy who's got your best interests in mind, you just can't." As you thought more about it, you realized that Jesse was right. Mark wasn't doing this to be the bad guy, he was just doing this because he wanted what was best for you.

"Yeah-I guess your right." Just as you opened your mouth to continue the conversation, you saw something towards the bar counter that caught your eye. It wasn't much, but it was a familiar fluff of blue hair that made your eyes do a double take. Ok, you knew for a fact that not many people in Los Angeles dyed their hair a bright fucking blue. Your gut feeling told you it was Mark!

You weren't positive until the head that the blue hair was attached to turned ever so slightly, and you saw Mark's face casually, but discreetly glance over the restaurant layout.

Steam started to pour from your ears as your eyes were now latched onto Mark. This was a popular bar, you'd give him that, but he just HAPPENED to show up the night you had your date with Jesse when he didn't like you going out with him in the first place? You never were one for coincidences.

"Excuse me, I'll be right, I see an old friend of mine. I'm just going to go say hi real quick." You hoped you were convincing enough as you stood up from the table and made your way over towards Mark at the bar, who still hadn't noticed you. Thankfully, the loud music coming from the speakers covered the sound of your footsteps.

You stopped directly behind Mark as you tapped his right shoulder with your finger. He turned around, immediately acquiring a panicked look on his face.

"Y/N I didn't see you there- are you here with anyone?" Mark tried to play it off smoothly but failed miserably.

"I'm here with Jesse, my date that you knew about and knew that I'd be going here."

"Oh, so you're on a first-name basis with the guy now huh?" A smirk lit up Mark's face but there was an emotion in his eyes you couldn't quite detect.

"I'm on a date with the guy, of course I am! What the fuck are you doing here Mark, are you spying on me?!"

"I wouldn't call it spying for say, it's more along the lines of being your 'secret bodyguard'." He rose his fingers up in air quotes, which just ticked you off even more.

"I don't need a bodyguard Mark, I'm 25! I can take care of myself without you watching over my back every single moment of the day." Mark stood up from his seat at the bar to tower over you, his brown eyes darkening a shade.

"Well, I'm sorry for loving you, ok?" He whispered only loud enough for you hear. You took a step back when you heard him. Did he just say he loved you? He meant that in a best friend kind of way, right?

"Wait- what did you just say?"

"You heard me." Mark swiftly bent down, placing a kiss on your lips as he swept you into his arms. The kiss itself wasn't long, but it was long enough for you to taste the combination of liquor and cherry chapstick.

Mark pulled away, letting go of his hold on you as a charming smile slid into place. "Have fun on the rest of your -date. I'll be at your house, waiting." He quickly dropped his lips against your forehead before heading towards the bar entrance.

As you watched Mark leave the bar, only one thing came to mind. Looks like it was time to end things with Jesse.
