This is the other Imagine that was requested by johnthackery, once again I hope that this does your idea the justice it deserves!
You sat at the kitchen table, checking the time on your phone for what seemed like the 100th time. Early this morning, Mark had left saying that he was going to record a few videos with close friends of his, Arin and Danny. He said that he was going to be back a few hours ago, and he would text you when he was on his way home.
Worry began to eat away at your stomach as you waited to hear anything from Mark, telling you that he was ok. No matter what the case was, he always told you what was going on or where he was. Mark knew you were the type of person that worried about things often so he wanted to do whatever he could to ease the worry.
You continued sitting at the table, your small hands wrapped around a warm cup of hot chocolate. You hated the taste of tea, so instead, you used hot chocolate to calm your anxieties and nerves.
The sound of a key inserting into the lock on the front door made you turn your eyes to the front door. It took a few seconds, but eventually, the door swung open, revealing an exhausted Mark.
Before you opened your mouth to say anything, the smell of cheap liquor began to permeate your nostrils. It wasn't a heavy smell, but it was enough to notice it was there. You had to stop your shoulders from sulking as you sat at the table. It's ok that Mark had something to drink, he was more than welcomed to. It's the fact that he drove home afterwards.
You knew Mark well enough to know he wouldn't be stupid enough to get hammered than get behind the wheel of a car, but he drove knowing that there was alcohol in his system in the first place? It wasn't necessarily the biggest deal in the world, but drinking while driving had always been a sore subject for you since your parents were killed by a drunk driver when you were 18.
"Hey you're home, I was worried about you." Mark lifted his head so his eyes could connect with yours. There was a soft tone in them as he walked close enough to kiss the top of your head.
"I'm sorry I worried you, the recording session with Arin and Danny ran later than expected. My phone died, so I couldn't text you." Mark continued to walk past you towards the kitchen.
"Yeah, how'd it go with them anyways?"
"It was a blast, we all played some Mario Party for a few hours before doing different challenges of sorts. I would have gone home after that but they talked me into staying for a drink." You heard the faucet turn on as Mark presumably filled a glass with water.
"Really?" You couldn't stop yourself as a judgmental tone had crept into your voice. God, now was not the time to decide to become a judgmental bitch.
"Come on Y/N, it was a single drink, you know I wouldn't have driven home if I had more than that." Mark appeared in front of you with a glass of water in hand. "I'm not going to be the guy that does what happened to your parents, ok?" As he shuffled past you, he placed a kiss on your cheek before heading up the stairs.
"I'm going to head up to bed, I'll see you in the morning." Mark gave you a small smile before disappearing completely up the stairs.
(Later that night)
You were enjoying yet another bright, sunny day California had to offer as you worked on your garden in the backyard. It wasn't often that you got to simply enjoy the afternoon like this, so when you got the opportunity you took it. Not to mention the house stood silent for once, as Mark had gone out with Wade and Bob.
As the sun continued to beat down on your neck, your phone began to go off on a table nearby. With a curious eyebrow raised, you took off a dirt-caked glove before answering the call.
"Hello?"
"Y/N it's Mark- oh god," You heard Mark sniffle as screaming went on in the background. You could even hear the faint sound of sirens in the distance on his end.
"Mark, what happened? Where the hell are you?!" The panic in your voice rose as your eyes began to glisten with your own tears.
"I was coming home with Bob and Wade, we had a drink or two, but I thought I was ok behind the wheel-" When his voice cracked, he took the time to clear his throat before continuing on. "Me, Bob, and Wade are ok- but I hit a family, traveling with their daughter to the beach. The little girl's dead Y/N, she's dead." Mark had finally broken down and started to cry. You were speechless yourself as a few tears began to make their way down your face.
You shot up in bed, a yelp coming out of your mouth. Sweat began to trickle down your face as your pajamas had begun to stick to your body. Even though you knew it was a nightmare, it all felt so real.
Glancing over to your right, you saw that Mark began to stir next to you. Within a few seconds, his eyes were open as he looked at you with concern.
"Y/N, what's going on? Are you ok?"
"It's fine, I just had a nightmare that's all." You found yourself tightening the blanket around your body as you continued to sit up in bed.
"Talk to me about it, that's what I'm here for." You didn't look, but you felt the weight in the bed shift as Mark sat up next to you, placing a comforting arm across your shoulders. So, you told him what happened; everything from you working on a non-existent garden, to the bone chilling conversation you had with Mark, telling you that he had killed the little girl.
When you finished telling Mark what happened, a few tears were making their way down your face. The arm that once was around your shoulder, was now wrapped securely around your waist as you brought up against Mark.
"Shh, it's ok. Everything's ok. A little girl isn't dead Y/N." One of his hands began to move in calming circles on your back as his head rested against yours. "I'm going to make a promise to you Y/N. I will never, and I mean never, get behind the wheel of a car if I've had anything to drink ok? I don't want what happened to you to happen to another family, or worse, to me."
Tonight was one of those moments in your relationship where you were glad that he was there for you. You knew that he would make good on that promise until he couldn't any longer.
