Endless Night

Lucius's POV

Silence...well silence excluding the noise from the road under the wheels as I continued to drive the coach down the cobblestone streets of London. Other coaches drove by and mortals walked around going about their boring and simple lives. Mothers clung to their children and missing posters were visible on the walls of shops. This was her mission out in the city.. to find the missing children. I pulled on the reigns and stopped the horses outside of the hotel she had me arrange. I would be lying if i said i did not see why she would not stay in her city home. This was a mission and should the criminal be an acquaintance of hers then her arrival in the city would raise suspicion. There was a time in the year were noblemen journeyed to the city to spend a few days or even a few weeks staying in their town homes. It was when all the in town noblemen held balls and galas to either raise charity for foundations or just because they could. We had left the manor in the afternoon with the intention to arrive at near night. My mistress had wanted to do this so that no one on the street could identify her as she walked into the hotel. The thought made me smile as i brought the coach to a halt outside the hotel. I stepped down and walked to her door. I opened it and extended my hand helping her down saying we had arrived. Jade pulled the hat she had adorned on her head down a little to tilt it upwards on the side. She had changed to look like a middle class woman and fixed her hair to look not as well brushed and twisted in the bun but allowed it to have frays of hair so she looked like she had been in the coach for quite some time. Perhaps this was why she had been silent, she was too focused on her disguise to have idle chit chat. She picked up her bag and looked at the door of the hotel as if it were a large gate.

"Something troubles you mistress?"

Jade shook her head and walked to the door pushing it open with a smile on her face. She went to the desk attendant and told him of her reservation and about how lovely london was looking as well as asking about any restaurants he would recommend. She was playing the role of either an out of town citizen and I was the help or she was trying to throw off his thoughts as he looked at her with a deep thought of recognition. I could sense how nervous she was as the man continued looking at her as if trying to identify an old friend. The man was more than kind as he spoke to her and then lead her up the stairs and through the halls to her room. It was rather large with a bed meant obviously for couples and there was a small sitting area with a dark mahogany wood table between the two arm chairs. A dresser leaned against the wall next to the door leading into the bathroom were a clawed foot tub accompanied a white walled bathroom with grey tiles. This was it... this was the room... this was the room we would be sharing our night together.

"I hope you enjoy your stay madam."

The man said to her as he left the room closing the door. She took off her hat and sighed letting her act go. She removed her jacket and walked to the chair sitting down. It was obvious to me that the small interaction set her on edge, if she remained this way she would talk herself out of what she came here to do. What she asked me to find her a mission for. I needed to calm her down.. I walked over and kneeled before her as she held her head in her hands rubbing the sides of her forehead. I took her arms gently in my hands and said softly.

"Mistress... are you all right."

"Lucius.. does he know.. does he know who i am..."

She looked up at me and it was obvious she was nervous, and she was also worrying about the man recognizing her.

"No Jade.... he does not know... he thought he knew who you were but then realized you couldn't have been.. Jade..."

I cupped her face gently and rubbed my thumb over her cheek. Her eyes looked at me searching mine... what they were searching for i didn't know.. humans had always confused me with their emotions.. but.. i saw one i recognized. Fear and yet she was also feeling desire.
