This one is for @kardelisa9022 I hope you like it, make sure to let me know what you think! I'm not sure if all the Finnish is completely right as I used a translation website.
"Kyllä, Teuvo. Olen lennolle nyt. Minun täytyy mennä, minä tekstin teille myöhemmin." (Yes, Teuvo. I'm boarding now. I have to go, I'll text you later.) I told Turbo as I walked through the tunnel connecting the airport to the plane. I swear that was the fourth time he had asked me if I was going to make it on time. I was flying to Raleigh from Finland to surprise my boyfriend Sebastian. He was playing in the NHL with the Hurricanes, so I hadn't seen him in a few months. I missed him more than anything and I knew he missed me just as much. I guess he talked about me more than everyone would have liked and the team, specifically Teuvo, had gotten tired of hearing about me, so Teuvo stole Sebastian's phone and got my number from it. He called me and we organized a plan to surprise him.
"Okay, be safe. I'll see you tomorrow."
"You too, Turbo." I said before hanging up. I shoved my phone in my pocket and stepped onto the plane. I walked down the isle and found my seat. I slipped my backpack off before sitting in the window seat. It was going to be a long eighteen hour flight to get to Sebastian, but it was worth every second.
Luckily, the only other person to sit with me was a business man who took the isle seat. I was grateful he didn't try and speak to me at all. He didn't seem to be from Finland as his phone case had an American football team decorating the plastic surface. He also didn't seem to be able to read the flight information that rolled across the screen in Finnish. I held in a laugh as he figured out how to change the language from Finnish to English.
After we had finally reached cruising altitude, I pulled my laptop from my bag and began watching Netflix. After about five episodes of "The Office" I fell asleep. Good thing I didn't have to switch planes when we landed in Portugal to refuel considering I slept through through everything from ten that night to about eight the next morning.
A half season of "The Office" took care of the rest of the flight. As soon as I stepped into the airport I called Sebastian to wish him good luck like usual.
"Hei beibi!" (Hey baby!) Sebastian cheered, bringing a smile to my face.
"Hei Sebastian."
"Mitä teet?" (What are you doing?) Sebastian asked. I didn't want to lie to him, but I had to in order to keep everything a surprise.
"Öh tiedätte, opiskelu." (Oh, you know, just studying.) I stuttered out. I was an atrocious liar and I knew he would pick up on it.
"Oletko kunnossa? Näytät...pois." (Are you okay? You seem...off.) Sebastian asked, concern filling his voice. I could practically see his face change from relaxed to on edge.
"Yeah, yeah, just tired." I told him, hoping he would drop it.
"Okay." He said slowly, not believing one word I said.
"Good luck, I love you." I told him.
"Minäkin rakastan sinua." (I love you too.) I hung up the phone and slipped it into my sweatshirt pocket. I found baggage claim- after getting lost, twice- and grabbed my suitcase from the carrousel. Teuvo told me he sent someone to pick me up, I just had to find them. He didn't describe the person to me, other than it was a woman, so I hoped she had a sign.
I looked around the terminal and scanned the signs. I saw one that caught my eye. Welcome to America Alicia! It was decorated with American and Finnish flags and the Hurricanes' logo. I smiled and headed towards the woman holding the sign.
"Hi! You must be Alicia!" The woman cheered, full of excitement. She dropped one hand from her sign and pulled me into a hug. "I'm Heather, Jordan Staal's wife." Heather said, pulling back. I recognized the name as one of Seb's teammates, so I didn't feel as awkward as I had in the previous seconds.
"Nice to meet you." I told her, recalling the only English greeting I could remember. Speaking with Heather was really going to put my knowledge of the English language to the test.
"Sebastian will be so surprised you're here! He always talks about how much he misses you!" Heather rambled on, but I zoned out thinking about Sebastian. I hadn't seen him since his debut in October. I didn't like being across an ocean from him, but I would deal with it forever if I had to, as long as we were together I knew everything would be okay.
"Alicia?"
"Hmm?" I snapped my head in the direction of the voice and saw we were at the car.
"Are you okay?" Heather asked, concern filling her tone.
"Yeah, just ready to see Sebastian." I replied, giving her a little smile. I opened the rear door and put my suitcase in the back seat.
"You really miss him, don't you?" Heather asked, pulling me into another hug.
"Yes, very much." I responded.
She pulled back and smiled at me. "Well, let's get you to him then." We both climbed in the car and headed to PNC Arena. "So the plan is to have you sitting in his stall in the locker room when they come in." Heather explained as she drove. It was a quick fifteen minute drive to the arena.
The two of us headed inside and found our seats with the WAGs. They had just finished announcing the lineups. I almost cried when I saw Sebastian just because it had been so long. I wished I could touch him, make sure he was tangible, that I wasn't just dreaming. It would have to wait until after the game. Two hours, two hours and we'll be reunited.
___________
The Canes were ahead four to three when we left in the final two minutes. I paid close attention to the announcers as Heather led me deeper into the bowels of the arena. I could faintly hear the buzzer go off signaling the end of the game. I was glad they won, it meant everyone would be in a good mood.Heather pulled open the locker room door and let me in. "I'm going to be around the corner so it doesn't look suspicious." I nodded and she slipped out of the room. I scanned the name plates until I located the one that said Aho on it. I heard them coming down the hallway so I quickly walked across the room and sat down in Seb's stall. I pressed my back against the wall so he couldn't see my face.
"Fuck yeah! That's how you do it boys!" Someone yelled, earning a bunch of cheers from the team. Suddenly, everything went quiet, kind of scaring me.
"Dude, Sebs, what's in your stall?" Another voice asked.
"I don't know." Sebastian said confused.
"Well, go look." I heard someone edge him towards me. I could hear his slow steps and wished he would hurry up. Finally he appeared in front of me and a look of pure shock washed over his features.
"Alicia? Wha- What are you doing here?" Sebastian stuttered out.
"Yllätys!" (Surprise!) I stood up and flung myself into Sebastian's arms. We held each other tighter than we ever had before. Cheers erupted around us and I was finally where I needed to be, home in Sebastian's arms.
