Weeks had passed since that little incident involving Lyndall, a bottle of liquor, and a night full of humility. Thankfully, things had started progressing between the two of us due to all of that. I don't know if Jay felt threatened or anything but he was definitely on top of his game again. When I came home for winter break we were inseparable.

For Christmas all of my family came over including Jay. My mother had finally started warming up to him again once she realized he wasn't going anywhere any time soon. As we all know in the beginning she had basically pushed me on to him but somewhere in the middle of all that she adopted the idea that maybe he was a little too much for me and a serious relationship was something I didn't need right now- or better yet something SHE thought I didn't need at the moment.

I was 21, young, and supposed to be out enjoying life every night, not playing wifey to some old head. That wasn't even the case but I guess she forgot that she was younger than me before she even walked down the aisle with my father and said 'I Do'. She'd gone through the same thing with Camille and Derrick not too long ago so I was just relieved when she came to her senses again.

Christmas Eve, I was sitting at the island in the kitchen and on the phone with him when she walked by announcing that she expected him to be at our house at 7pm sharp for the big dinner if he didn't have anything else to do. Indeed he didn't and he was there on time with an exquisite present for me in tow. It didn't hold a candle to the new car my father bought for me but it was still lovely to say the least.

I got him a Michael Kors watch and a pair of Rock & Republic jeans to exchange with the gift bag he handed over full of goodies when he arrived. As some type of practical joke, the first thing I remember pulling out was a black Juicy Couture tracksuit with none other than the classic Juicy logo centered on the ass of the pants as well as the hoodie. He couldn't even keep a straight face, I knew he had an ulterior motive for picking that particular brand- asshole. It was cute though, so I couldn't be mad. Next was a card filled with 3 big faced 100 dollar bills and if that wasn't enough, he told me to keep digging.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I came across the little cubed jewelry box from Jared's. FUKIN JARED'S. I could hear the little song from the commercial in my head ( 'he went to Jared's') and that alone made me want to cry.

I was so scared to open it but he quickly calmed me down after he noticed how shaky I had become. It wasn't at all any kind of proposal, just a friendship ring. A very nice .30 carat, princess cut, white gold friendship ring

When I started to put it on my right ring finger, he stopped me- suggesting that I wear it on the left

When I started to put it on my right ring finger, he stopped me- suggesting that I wear it on the left. We weren't at all engaged but yet he wanted me to wear it on my left hand to obviously make it clear to others that I was severely taken. I could dig it- after all, I definitely wasn't going to sit there and argue with him.

For a while we chilled with my family and for the first time ever I can say that was the best Christmas ever. I had my man by my side and for once my sisters and I were able to be in each other's presence without any kind of hostility towards one another. Before the night was over Jay and I stopped by Kelly's Mom's house where her 3 billion cousins and their kids were all over the place chatting it up, drinking, and eating until the wee hours of the night. My sole purpose in going over there was so she could see my new car but she damn near had a heart attack when she spotted the ring on my finger.
