That night

By the time we got home, I had already pitched the idea to Jay that a movie would be just fine.

In my opinion, it was the perfect date since there wouldn't be much talking involved. I wonder if he even thought about that when he sent a response back so quickly agreeing. I highly doubt it.

I was in my closet trying to find another shirt to put on when my mother walked in my room. She cleared her throat and sighed before sitting down on my bed.

"Going somewhere?"

"Movies."

"With?"

"A friend..."

"Does this friend have a name?"

"Of course he does. Everybody has a name Mama."

"Beyoncé!"

"What!?" I couldn't help but laugh. I really didn't see the point in telling her. "You don't know him."

"Exactly."

"Mama!! I just met the guy geeze."

"Where?"

I stopped walking around the room just to look at her. I could tell she got a kick out of prying into my business like this. The perks of still living under the same roof as your parents at the age of 20, I swear.

"The cook-out I was at the other day with Kelly's family."

"Oh really?" She raised her eyebrows a little shocked I guess.

She loved Kelly, she really did but there were just some things she didn't approve of and the company Kelly kept other than myself of course was one. As kids, she was always getting into trouble. The police even came here looking for her one time when she actually ran away from home. All of that was in the past though. Compared to the way she use to be; she'd done a whole 360 if you ask me. I can still remember my mother's reaction when I told her Kelly was having a baby. I honestly think she was expecting me to go out and get pregnant too. I don't know why parents think your friends have that much of an influence on you.

She noticed the irate look on my face and backed off. "Fine, I won't ask you anymore questions. I just came in here to make sure you were okay. I just finished talking to your sister and I know she can be a pain sometimes but..."

"I really don't want to talk about her right now.."

"Look, All I'm saying is; don't let her get to you. That child has issues of her own that I'm still trying to figure out. You know misery loves company."

I kept quiet until she was finished her little tirade. I hadn't seen my mother this calm in a long time. The next thing I knew Solange was coming down the hall ruining the moment AGAIN.

"MA!.... Mama! I need to talk to you..." She stopped in front of my door and snarled noticing that I was getting dressed to leave out.

"Solange didn't I ask you to stay in your room!"

"Yea...but it's important." She held her phone in her hand probably putting her friends on hold in an attempt to talk my mother into letting her leave the house.

"I already know what you're going to say and the answer is NO!"

"Grr..How come she gets to go out then? What happened to spending more time with eachother huh?" she mocked my mother.

My cell phone started ringing and I tuned them both out when I realized it was Jay. As if on cue, my mother left the room screaming at Solange. I shut the door before answering the call and giving him the directions to my house.
