Chapter 30 "The feast."

Sqaishey's pov...
Sundee stood up. "Well... I guess.. That's that.. The helicopter should be coming in soon.." he said, not looking at me.. But to the north. I was confused.. Was he going to mourn? He looked back at me. "Well? You comin'?" He asked, looking back at me. I gave no response. "You can't expect me to just curl up in a ball and cower! I don't know about you.. But I want to live. For his sake at least." He said, trudging off. "W-wait! I'm coming." I yelled, running after him.
He was barking directions at me as I ran. "If we're going back, we've got to get there fast." He said, running. I gave a small nod. I held a knife at the ready although.. At this speed I think the best I could do was hit a tree. "And.. Sqaishey..", he paused. I gazed at him as to say "yes?"
"If it's Squid. I'm sorry." He said, focusing his eyes back straight ahead. Sundee.. Always so straightforward.

After a while... There we were.. At the ravine. He looked at me as if he knew exactly what I must do.. And he does.. I approached the edge slowly and looked below. Nobody. "A..Are you sure there was only one canon?" I ask. "I'm absolutely sure!" He replies. I was so confused.. "He.. He's gone." I say. "There's really no sign of either?!" Sundee asked walking up beside me. I gave a sad nod. "That's.. Not good." He muttered.

All of a sudden, an anouncement sounded! "Attention Tributes! As you know.. The number of you has thinned to nearly nothing. This means, the Cornucopia will have it's.. Feast..", the man who was speaking paused. "If you do not understand already.. This feast will have one thing that you, specifically you, need. Or.. Something that you most desire at this moment. This is your one warning. If you do not go soon, this 'thing' may be taken by another tribute. Be very wary. Thank you and may the odds be ever in your favor." He finished.

"Feast, huh?", "I'm going." Sundee said. "No! We can't go! It's way too risky!" I shouted. Just then, somebody ran out from the bushes. "We have to!!". they screamed. It was that girl from Sky's group! "Alex?" Sundee asked at the sight of her. She was out of breath..
"Where's Zane?!" Sundee asked. "He's in a nearby cave, resting. He's been affected with some.. Some venom! He got bitten by this.. Weird gamemaker mutation! We need to go to that feast to save him! Please!" She screamed. This Zane guy must really matter to her. "We need to, Sqaishey." Sundee said. I..... "Fine. But this really isn't a smart idea.." I said. Alex seemed happy by my choice. "Okay great! I know that the Cornucopia is just northwest from here..", she paused. "What else have you got on it?" I asked, clearly talking about information. "It's a glass building.. About.. T-ten stories high." She said, making a stretching motion with her hands. "Ten stories! That's ridiculous!" Sundee was astounded. "Indeed..." Alex mumbled. "But that's not important right now! We need to get going before Sky or.. A..Anyone else does." She said.
I just noticed the staff she had which was tied around her to stay on her back unless pulled out. It was fairly large. We both nodded. "To the Cornucopia!" Sundee shouted. "For once quiet down!" Alex said. "We've got to be very sneaky..", she paused. I nodded.....

After a long while... We saw in the distance, the ten story Cornucopia. "There she is.." Sundee said. Alex was right.. It was completely made of glass! Well... Except for the steps. On each side of the building.. Or rather, structure.. Was a rope. Thin but strong. The artificial sunlight reflected off of the glass and created a large rainbow colored spiral of light. Very beautiful, but it hurt my eyes.
"Okay.. Let's go.." Alex whispered. We began to advance closer when we heard a voice. "Stop." She said. The voice stopped so it must know we are here. All three of us were dead silent.. Like statues... Nothing could move us now.
When we thought it was safe, we got out of the awkward position and moved forward.

"So you're here for the feast?" A female voiced asked.
For a moment.. All of us stood there, with a synchronized gasp of terror. We turned to face our huntress. It was.. And absolutely, undeniably, the danger we were all expecting... Aphmau.

"Well... You're not the only one's who are hungry! And I myself, am not the sharing type." She said with a smile. We all seemed to be frozen in place.. "Heheheheh.. Bethany Bates.. Score of 12.. Placed into District 12.. Incredible with a gun.. Is the perfect survivalist, despite her cheery pacifist tone online. She's no brutal killer, but she's no coward. Absolutely incredible." She said. Why was she giving me flattery? What was she playing at?
        "I.."- I was interrupted. "It's a shame that she won't live to see her glorious fame." She said. Everything after this seemed to go in a blur. She pulled out a knife.. The two beside me seemed to snap back into reality. I couldn't even see exactly what she did.. But Alex seemed to freeze Aphmau into place.. But only for a moment. She kicked me backwards but something went flying my way from Sundee's direction. I knew exactly what this was. A gun. I knew exactly what this meant... Shoot.

        It landed in my hand, already loaded. As we both were falling to a laying position I aimed quickly.. And shot. For about a second.. She seemed to look generally terrified.. She was scared of death... And who could blame her? But it's too late. Face your fears Aphmau.
     The bullet went smashing into her skull.
Everything seemed to go back into normal motion again.. I landed on my back and Aphmau.. Or.. H-her corpse landed on top of me. Her face was smushed onto mine. I managed to roll her off of me... I was covered in her blood, head to toe.. My face most likely unrecognizable.
      "Wow.. That was... Something." Alex said, trying to help me up.. My hands were so slippery that my hands slipped out of her grasp and I went flying back against the ground.. My head banging against the ground.. For about a minute all I saw was stars.. I got myself up. Her head was... Leaking all over the grass.. "You look like an apple!" Sundee said. "I wouldn't say this stuff.. This is the blood of the girl I just killed.." I said.. "Forget it.. We need to get up to the Cornucopia." Alex said. I nodded and so did Sundee.

        The wind began to howl... Night was falling. "It.. It doesn't matter! We need to go!" I shouted beginning to run up the steps. "Look around for some medicine!" Alex shouted. We advanced to the first floor. The step supports spiralled into the floor which twisted to make the supports for the next floor.. And so on and so on.. "Can we take our gifts as well?" Sundee asked. "Fine! But just focus on that medicine!" Alex screamed, looking around. As it turns out, there wasn't just our gifts here... There was an entire wave of trinkets and tools, food, water, weapons and more.. With each step we took.. I feared more that the floor was going to collapse... Each footstep was loud and clear, which just added to the effect..

     We advanced a floor.. Then another.. Then another.. In search of the medicine.. Alex had gone ahead of us.. By.. (I wasn't counting) floors until she shouted. "I've found it!" We ran up to floor eight, which, just happened to be the floor she was on. "So.. Are you sure that's it?" Sundee asked. "Positive.", she said. "I found it on pedestal six. That's the district they put me in. That's logical, right?" She asked. I nodded.. It did make sense.
      "Okay.. There's been no canons.. So.. He's alive! We need to go.. NOW." Sundee said. Right after he said this.. Two things happened.. Two things that sent a chill down my spine.
         A canon fired.. And a cackle rang out.
