"Alright today we'll be talking a little bit about saturation and vibrance." Dan said, watching as the class opened photoshop on their laptops.
It had been nearly a month since the whole comment incident, and it had been smooth sailing from then.
Him and his class had gotten close, to the point where Dan didn't really think of them as his students. They were more his friends, and he loved that. None of them still called him Mr. Smith, unless they were joking around.
Kyle and him had slowly become good friends. Kyle was he perfect fit for Dan. Extrovert vs. introvert.
"Anyways, you see if you turn down the saturation and turn up the vibrance it gives the picture a sort of high quality muted look to it." He then used a picture he had taken of an abandoned factory.
"I want you all to try it and submit your favorite one. I'm going to start printing out my favorite of each project and hang them on the ceiling." He grinned, listening as the room began to stir.
"You can also experiment with the saturation and vibrance. My favorite is the muted colors, but I know that some of your styles rely on heavy color. I'll shut up now, if anyone needs me, I'll be at my table grading."
Dan then sat up on the table, laptop in lap and began grading assignments.
'This is the dream.' He thought to himself, smiling softly. Dan had never loved what he was doing so much. It was the perfect combination between art, and teaching, and everything else he had ever wanted.
The only problem were some of the other teachers. Kyle was amazing. But some of the others weren't so friendly towards him. The other teachers weren't young and friendly, in fact they were mostly old and so cranky.
The quiet classroom was interrupted by the sound of heavy footsteps.
"Mr. Smith please come down to my office." The principal said, and his heavy footsteps exited.
The whole class turned to face him. He quickly mouthed 'fuck' and followed the principal like a lost puppy.
"Sit." He barked, making Dan sit immediately.
"Do you really think you're qualified for this job?" He asked in a belittling tone.
"Yes sir. I had a bit of a rough start, we both know that. But I've straightened out." He said, feeling his leg trembling as he spoke.
"You sure?" He asked, turning his computer monitor to face dan.
On it was just the grade book. Maybe he had graded something wrong. He knew he was behind in grading a little, but it was nothing to get upset over.
"I don't see an issue sir."
"When I look at the students grades, and I see nineteen one hundreds and one fifty I see a major problem."
Dan sighed, never thinking his method of grading would come back to bite him in the ass.
"Care to explain?"
"Well I, um never believed in grading art work. So if the piece fits the assignment and it's a quality picture, it's a 100. I leave them comments on how to improve though." He explained, watching as Mr. Gordon grinned.
"You can't do that. Mr. Smith you've proved to be more difficult that I expected. And then you pull this. You have to actually grade. You don't start grading, you stop working here. Understand?" Dan shook his head accepting defeat.
"Yes sir." He said solemnly.
"Glad we're on the same page."
