"Dan do you really think this is a good idea?" Charlie asks, his tone soft. It's been almost ten minutes since the gallery officially opened, but time has seemed to go by in slow motion.
It's only been a matter of days, and things are starting to look up for the two. Up until now.
"Kyle wouldn't just not come." Dan tells himself, but he's not sure if he believes himself anymore. It's not that he doesn't trust Kyle anymore, he just doesn't exactly know him anymore.
"You just don't deserve this." Charlie sighs, and turns around to face the wall full of art. Despite what Dan would say, it's truly incredible. Unlike most art galleries he has attended, Dan's is a mixture of art forms. Along one wall are a collection of paintings. Each one is different, but the over all tone is dark and depressing. And then along another wall are row after row of photographs. If Charlie would guess it's almost a thousand pictures, all an exact distance apart.
It seems Charlie's prayers are answered as he sees the door swing open, and Kyle comes running through the door.
"Shit Dan I'm so sorry I'm late." He pants, catching his breath as he stands in the small portion of the gallery that's Dan's.
"It's alright you're not too late." Dan chuckles nervously, watching as Kyle catches sight of his work.
In all his times visiting museums, galleries, and teaching art, he's never seen something like this. The more he looks at it, the more his breath seems to be taken away. It's beautiful, and raw, and passionate, and painful, and sad, and romantic, it's everything.
It's like nothing he's ever seen. Just looking at all of it brings tears to his eyes.
Kyle doesn't feel like he's looking at art. He feels as if he's looking into Dan's head. The dark and depressing pieces all spawn from him. It hurts him to think that he is most likely the source of this.
"So..." Dan mumbles awkwardly swaying. It means everything to him that Kyle doesn't hate it.
It's a weird feeling. All the feelings are still there. But there's something pushing them below the surface that wasn't there before. He can only explain it as fear.
"Dan, I, I absolutely love it. This is incredible." Kyle smiles, fighting the tears trying to fall. Both men are incredibly emotional, both on the edge of tears.
"I made it onto the wall!" Kyle smiles, pointing to a picture of himself. It's a picture taken in the early days of their relationship. Back when they worked across the hall from each other, and neither were members of AA.
"I wouldn't leave you off." He smiles softly, looking at the wall of pictures. It's a spectacular feeling to take a step back and look at it as a whole. In total it's 752 of his absolute favorite pictures. Clustered in sections are different emotions and pictures that represent them. The whole thing took nearly a week for him and Charlie to finish hanging all of them.
He looks to where Charlie is standing and can't help but smile. He's talking with one of the other artists, a wide smile on his face.
Dan then looks to Kyle. He's close to the wall now, looking at each individual picture.
He desperately wishes he could freeze this moment. It's a moment where there's no pain no arguing no drama, nothing. In this moment his glass is half full.
