Dan slowly sat up, the memories from last night hitting him like a ton of bricks. His eye felt like it had a heartbeat and was swollen shut.
He could hear someone in the kitchen, and Charlie was still asleep next to him, meaning it was Kyle.
All he wanted was to lock the door and stay in bed all day. He wanted to forget all of last night and pretend like it never happened. But his bruised eye wouldn't allow for that.
Slowly he sat up, feeling his body ache. Never had he felt so terrible physically and mentally. In fact, he didn't know this amount of pain was even possible.
Dan then put on a pair of socks, and stood up, slowly making his way to the locked door.
Without a sound he opened it up, already feeling tears in his eyes. All he could think of was Kyle's figure, standing over him with that look. The one that seemed to enjoy his fear. The look that smirked after knocking him to the ground.
He expected to find Kyle on the sofa, but no. The small apartment was empty.
Dan was about to go back to bed when he heard the familiar snores. His heart was racing in his chest, as he softly walked towards the source.
"Shit." He mumbled, walking in on Kyle asleep in his bed.
Kyle was curled up above the covers, wearing his eagle sweatshirt, his arms wrapped around the small picture frame. His body was shaking slightly, like he was in the middle of a nightmare.
"Dan." Kyle's eyes shot open, setting down the frame on the bedside table.
"Oh my god!" He quickly stood up, and walked towards Dan.
Dan quickly stepped back, his heart pounding. Last night was too fresh in his mind.
"Stay back." His voice wavered, the back of his throats burning from holding in the tears.
"Look, Dan I'm so so so sorry. I don't know what came over me. Please give me another chance?" Kyle's eyes were pleasing with him, but the throbbing in his eye prevented him from having any sympathy.
He hates that he wanted Kyle back. And he hates that deep down he also didn't.
"I, I can't. Kyle I can't do this anymore. I just, with my health and you health it just we need a break." His throat ached, and his body was full on shaking. It felt as if his whole world was crumbling down right before his eyes.
"Please Dan, I can change really. Last night was a one time thing, please love let me show you. I'll stop drinking, and we can go to AA meetings together, and then go to that little coffee shop you like so much. And I can get a job, and come visit you at lunch. Please I can't lose you." Kyle's voice was raspy, tears freely falling down his face as he watched Dan wipe away a tear.
"I need some time. And then maybe."
Kyle looked at him, his hope growing.
"Dan, I'll give you your space. I'm going to work on myself. Sort out some of the shit, and straighten myself out."
After that he gathered his things and left.
