"So today we're going to be talking about the use of shutter speeds to adjust lighting." He started, climbing up on top of his usual table top and crossed his legs.
"For example if you were to take a picture of a sunset what shutter speed do you think you would use?" He asked getting answers of all sorts.
"Well if you want a sort of dramatic deep colors i would shoot on manual. And then use about a 400th second shutter with a f-stop ranging from ten to sixteen." Dan then showed the class the difference it made, listening as all of them sighed.
"I've been taking pictures wrong my whole life." Matt laughed, causing the rest of the class to laugh along with him. Dan chuckled along, feeling as the weight that normally sat on his shoulders wasn't there.
In the past month he had slowly stopped the drinking and became a member of London's AA support group.
He even found himself a flat mate, no longer having to worry about paying the bills. His flat mate was another member of Alcoholics Anonymous that he had became close with.
--"Hey are you the new guy?" The man had asked him.
"Uh yeah." Dan mumbled through the headache. It had been one of the first days of sobriety.
"I'm Charlie. You must be Dan." The man said shaking his hand.
He looked younger than Dan himself. He had a small beard and brown eyes to go along with it. At first glance Dan saw a younger version of Kyle.
"Well basically when someone else joins you and a older member kind of act as a guide or friend or I don't know. Sorry I'm so shit at explaining. Just follow me."
That night they went out, both ordering water and just talked.
Charlie had just been dumped by his girlfriend, and Dan was basically in the same boat.
He hadn't left the house except for groceries since Kyle left him. And there he sat, actually enjoying himself. It felt nice.
To have that beautiful burning in his cheeks from smiling too much. It was a feeling that he thought was gone forever. He had thought Kyle had taken it with him, but no.
--"Come on Dan, you gotta cut your hair. Come on man you're students are gonna thing you live in the streets." Charlie laughed to himself. Dan laughed ironically, thinking back to his past.
He knew it was time for a haircut. The last time he had cut his hair was when both him and Kyle had cut each other's hair.
In the bathroom they pulled out the clippers, and set to work on each other's hair.
When he looked in the mirror he saw the greasy rats nest that he slicked back in an attempt to hide the excess length.
Before he knew it he was sitting on the counter of the bathroom, listening to the electric buzz of the clippers.
"Can you shave it almost all off on the sides, and a little off the top?" Dan asked listening as Charlie agreed.
This time it just wasn't the same. He couldn't get the memories out of his head.
--
"You're going to look so fucking hot." Kyle grinned tying the blindfold around his head."I better." Dan laughed, listening as the sound of the clippers startled him.
He could feel the hair falling onto the ground, his head feeling naked.
Not five minutes later the blindfold was untied and he looked at his reflection in the mirror.
"It looks so good!" He yelled, looking at himself in the mirror.
Kyle then grabbed him by the waste, softly placing a kiss on his forehead.
"You're welcome." Kyle grinned, blushing.
--Dan looked at his reflection in the mirror, examining the haircut Charlie had given him.
He looked like a respectable adult for he first time ever. The bags that came with the alcohol sleep weren't there. His skin was healthier due to the amount of water he began drinking. Overall he couldn't believe how much better he looked, and felt.
The only thing was the longing. He still felt as if a part of him was missing, and that's because it was. That's because Kyle was nearly 1000 miles away.
It's ironic though.
How Dan was rebuilding himself, while Kyle was slowly tearing himself apart.
