After forgetting the annoyance she felt because of that jerk, Naina walked through the empty corridors, trying to figure out where the brigadier's office might be. She was already 10 minutes late and she knew it well that punctuality is one of the things army can't compromise with. On the first day, she didn't want anything more to make it more memorable.
As she saw a sign with brigadier written on it, she quickly went in front of that, not wanting to be late for a minute, more than she already was.
"Miss, you have to wait. Brigadier sir is right talking another cadet." a boy around Naina's age told her, politely. His eyes held a fire, to prove something but with that those eyes screamed innocence. His voice was nothing but sweet and polite.
"Hye, I am Ali Beth, from Kanpur. It's nice to meet you. " he extended his right hand and Naina just shook hands, introducing herself as well.
Before they could say anything else the doors opened with a force and two people forced a person wearing black stripped white dress out of the room. He glared at everyone standing there but didn't say anything.
"Give him the uniform and make him understand the rules of this place. " Brigadier Chandon said to a person standing a little away, a Sardar with a nametag of Suri. He took that person away and now Brigadier was looking at Ali and Naina, assessing them for from head to toe.
"Naina Singh. Come inside" his tonewas cold and clipped. Naina didn't waste a moment to follow Brigadier and enter his office. "Why are you here?" the first question was enough to catch Naina off guard. But soon remembering the lines she learnt at her home, she repeated the lie, one of many she had prepared.
"I want to be a soldier sir. " She spoke with confidence. It was partly true, she wanted to become a soldier but foremost her brother's truth mattered for her. "Do you think you can become a soldier? " his stony glare clearly showed that he thought that she couldn't become a soldier and survive hear, just like her parents. "Yes Sir." keeping her head high and voice full of confidence she replied.
"But I don't think so. After all you are a girl, who has a childish dream that she thinks she can fulfill. I am warning you, get out of here because this is hell, and I don't think you can survive it." he was pretty proud of his speech and thought that this could make a hard headed Naina run away from here.
"Sir, I am ready to live in this hell even if demons of hell chase me." she stated simply. "Listen here young lady, I know whom you are calling demons. But if you want to enter in this hell then whatever these demons say is right for you, you need to accept whatever we say." he seemed a little angry but Naina managed to keep a emotionless and simple face. Soon her form had a stamp of Acceptance and she was allowed to go out of the room. But she already knew she had successfully managed to anger the Lucifer of this hell.
"He doesn't like girls. Talk about equality but still there are people in this world who will never understand what equality means." Ali tried to make Naina understand the behavior of the Brigadier. He was talking loud enough to make Ali and other few people standing there listen all their talks. On the other hand, she chose silence as an answer and walked away from there. She was irritated as hell. First, an annoying jerk then a Lucifer, could anything worse happen on her first day? Naina questioned, no one in specific but she understood that whenever someone questions themselves something like this, things turn out to be much worse than before. And that is what happened when her eyes locked with the person standing in front of him. She couldn't believe he followed her to KMA. The person sitting beside her in bus, surely seemed interested in her but he could follow her? Naina never thought to add a stalker on her list of people she met on first day,  along with Jerk and Lucifer.
"Listen here, this place is not for you. You need to get out of here and leave me alone." she said before she could process what she was thinking. All of her anger just came out and she couldn't contain it.
"I am sorry, but I think you are mistaken." the person said in a voice, that didn't contain any anger or annoyance. "I am Rajveer S" before he could continue, Naina spoke, "I am not interested who you are, now excuse me." she stepped aside and went away.
Unable to erase that face out of her mind, Naina walked towards girl's hostel, her new home for next two years.
"I am Lolita Sen, the warden of this hostel. Tell me your name. " out of nowhere a lady, popped out, scaring Naina, out of her thoughts. "Naina Singh. " she said. "Room 24" and just like that she left. Naina was confused but just accepted the fact that in army you need to be serious, you can't go around laughing and joking when whole country's safety depends on you. Keeping her bag in the allocated room, she rushed back to the main academy, to classroom 512 as soon as she heard the announcement.
Reaching there she could see the class was almost filled with first year cadets. The jerk was sitting in the last seat with a girl, hand in hand. Naina couldn't help but roll her eyes. And Ali, she met before was sitting alone in front. She chose to sit with him as no other seat in front was empty. Ali smiled a little seeing him and seemed happy that she chose to sit with him. Before the could talk, teachers started entering. When the last teacher entered, Naina couldn't help but mutter,  "Oh Shit... "
