There was a boy.
He was young and free
his heart filled with joy.
And then he grew.
Changing and feeling
through the years he flew.
And as pain and heartbreak
we're encountered and met
his happiness brushed away, an unforgiving set.
But instead of feeling down,
he pulled out his earbuds,
and turned his mood around.
But as time grew further,
the music grew colder.
And it no longer brought him ease.
He found something else.
And that day he smiled
and laughed.
But in the middle of the night
he pulled out a flask.
And drowned out the world.
His parents found him, hungover the next day.
Pale and sickly, fading away.
They rushed him to the hospital, he was treated with care.
He woke up and wished he wasn't there.
So he put in his headphones, the ones that had saved him so long ago.
And wished away the pain, that just wouldn't go.
But it eventually became too much.
And in the middle of the night, he stumbled out of bed.
Walking to the window, in the hush.
He stood on a chair, and tied the knot.
Then kicked it away, and hung in that spot
from his favorite headphones.
His doctors found him the next morning.
A song blaring through the earphones on repeat.
"This is the safest way to go, nobody gets hurt."
Oh how wrong he was.
As his family sobbed, his friends wailing, and the one he loved felt gone.
They wish with everything they have that he had stayed.
