"Ivy, get up! Time for school!"
I groaned as my mother's cheerful voice rang from the bottom of the stairs.
Sitting up my head spun. Slowly rising to my feet I went downstairs to wake myself up. It was a new house. We had just moved to Serenity, Minnesota from Seattle Washington. The house was a quaint two bedroom one bathroom. The walls were a beautiful baby blue with a mahogany trim. The stairs were made of cedar and the floors, I was almost certain, were oak.
Our kitchen was small and strictly essential. Oven, fridge, sink, pantry, and seven brown cupboards.
"Morning, Ivy. Glad you decided to get up. Your first day is always the best for making friends." She says handing me a cup.
I almost smile and take it drinking half in one gulp. It was sweet and savory. High in iron. Everything a growing vampire need to start the day. Oh, did I forget, my mother and I are vampires only there are a few things to know:
One: We drink blood, mostly from blood bags, Mom is a nurse so she has a bit of an unlimited supply.
Two: On MOST days we are harmless.
Three: We do NOT sparkly in sunlight. We get painful burns and blisters and can die if we don't get to the shade.
Four: We love for life. If we fall in love...we can never love anyone else.
Five: We do not sleep in coffins.
Six: All we want is to co-exist and be left alone. My mother watched me from the table. It was kind of unnerving. "What?"
My voice was quiet, as always.
"Oh, nothing...I am just wondering if you plan on going to school in your pajamas." She says chuckling.
I rolled my eyes knowing that was her way of telling me it was time to get dressed. I drained the rest of my cup and went back up to my room.
Unlike the rest of the house which was painted in cheerful light colors, mom had let me repaint my walls a dark black and blue. I had put down a red shag carpeting and my comforter was purple and all my furniture had a black finish.
I rummage through my closet till I find my Nirvana t-shirt, red flannel and a pair of jeans. I grabbed my mud kicking boots.
I pulled my long black Hair into a ponytail and did a thin black ring of eyeliner around my bright green eyes.
Grabbing my battered leather jacket and my messenger back from the hook on the back of my door and my keys from the dish in the hallway I walked out to my 2017 street 750 black and red Harley Davidson. I strapped my helmet on before peeling out of the garage and on to the road.
We lived fifteen minutes from the school so I took my time getting there...Bad Idea.
By the time I got there the parking lot was cluttered with Volkswagen and vans. I think my bike was the newest thing here...next to me. Compared to the other cars my bike's engine purred.
As I pulled into the parking space the students all turned to look....I knew they admired the bike, but was shocked by the rider. I believe I counted fourteen boys' mouths on the pavement when I took my helmet off.Getting off my bike, I made my way to the main office. It was a small office with only a single secretary. The room was a sea of fluorescent greenish light. There was a row of ten or twelve red plastic chairs, two fake ficus and an ancient printer in the corner.
The name plate declared the secretary to be Mrs. Green. She had curly red hair, with hazel eyes. She was a bit on the heavy side. She wore a white shirt with a purple floral pattern.
She didn't notice me till I cleared my throat.
"Yes? Can I help you?" Her voice was high pitched and shrill.
"Um, yes. My name is Ivy Sin, I was supposed to pick up my schedule and a map here." I say leaning on the counter. She made a grunting noise before she turned to her computer.
For a full minute all I heard was the tap tap tap of her keyboard then the whir of the printer.
"Here you go. Just show the teachers your schedule and you should be fine. "She says with what should have been a warm smile but to me seemed more menacing.
I thanked her then left going to find my first class. It wasn't hard to find the Latin class. Just look for the room with "Carpe Diem" plastered to the door. I walked in showing the instructor my schedule and finding my seat in the very back of the class.
I didn't know why I was in the class. I already spoke Latin fluently. A bit of and inside joke. A dead language for an UNdead race.
I had a feeling my morning was going to be really boring.
After an hour of listening to people recite easy words poorly the bell rang releasing me from my own personal torture.
I was getting up when someone approached me. I looked up to see a girl, tall and blond with a fake tan. She was in a cheerleaders outfit with six inch heels. I instantly didn't like her."Hi my name is Chloe Blake. I am head of the welcoming committee, your Ivy Sin right? The new student that came from Seattle?" Her voice was that of a stuck up snobby rich girl. I could bet her daddy owned everything and its brother.
"Yes my name is Ivy, yes i am from Seattle and yes I am new." I say not wanting her to linger.
"Okay then follow me. Mrs. Green must have mentioned that the welcoming committee is supposed to be guides for new students on the first day. "She says, flouncing as she turns to start towards the chemistry hall.
"Um, no that's fine I can handle it on my own. I don't take well to people and I would rather just get lost and find my way there on my own otherwise how will I learn anything?" I say turning away from here and losing her in the crowd, which was a miracle giving my whopping 6 foot 2 status.
After about five minutes of hiding out in a darkened corner in the hallway I figure it's safe and make my way to class. I was late obviously but you know what? As long as I didn't have to deal with the preppy cheerleaders I didn't care.
Going into the door, I went straight to the front desk and the teacher. She was sitting at her desk as the class did some book work. I showed her my schedule and told me to take a seat with the two boys in the front of the class. I groaned internally and turned to see who my new lab partners were.
