The room was pitch black with buzzes and whirs. I knew I was in a hospital room. I sat up and looked around. Only thing in here was the machines. My head felt like someone was inside my head with an army of Jack hammers. It was kind of hard to breath and my throat was drier than the desert.
The door opened and a man's figure stood there. "Ivy, you're awake?" He hurried over and all of a sudden Gabriel was hugging me. It was warm and inviting. I hugged him back. "You had me so worried. I didn't know if you were ever going to wake up." he buried his head into my shoulder. He was truly worried about me. I smile and rub his shoulder.
"How long have I been asleep?" My vision was getting hazy and red was tinging around the edges. I needed blood...and if Gabriel didn't get away from me he was going to be my next meal.
"Since this morning. Your mom said to call her if you woke. I will be right back." He gets up and walks back out into the hall. Good he was calling my mom. She would know what I need. I lay back on the pillow and look at the ceiling.
A few minutes later he comes back in. I see him put his phone on the table and come to sit next to me. He swung a leg up on the bed and leaned against the pillow with me. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer to him. I knew he wanted to make me feel better but all he was doing was putting himself in danger. I pulled away and turned my back to him.
"Ivy, what's wrong?" He asks, very concerned now.
"Nothing, just tired. Wake me up when mom gets here. Please." I say biting my lip. I feel him move and then I have his arm around me.
"Alright, Ivy, get some rest. I will be over in the corner if you need me." He says getting up. I turn my hands into fists and sighs.

About an hour later I hear the door open and high heels on the tiled floor. "How is she?" My mom's clear voice was quiet as she whispered to Gabriel.
"She hasn't moved since I called. She said she was tired, but I don't think that's it. I'm worried about her." Gabriel's voice was hush hush. My mom walks over and lays her hand on my cheek. I open my eyes and let them go red so she knows what's going on.
"Well, why don't you go get the three of us some coffee? She needs to wake up now anyway."
"Alright, I will be right back." I hear the door shut and then I sit up.
"Mom its torture. My throat is on fire. He wouldn't leave the room. I'm not ready to tell him yet. "She hands me a bag and I devour the content.
"I know, sweetie, I know but you are going to have to tell him sometime." She said, patting me gently on my leg. I covered my face and fought back the tears that threatened to spill over.
"Mom, what if he rejects me? What if he can't handle what we are? What he will have to become?" I am not able to look at her. I hear her sigh and then a pair of footsteps out in the hall, but they weren't footsteps of a human, they were a vampire's footsteps.

The boy who stood in the doorway was tall and lean. He had black spiked hair all over his head. His skin was the same color as mine and he had an almost unnatural color of brown eyes. He was definitely a vampire, just by the way he held himself. Proud. Shoulders back, like he had nothing to fear."Excuse me, but, did I hear you correctly? Did you say you were Vampires too?" His face was turned into one of desperation. I looked from him to my mom and she gave me a slight nod. "Yes, you heard us correctly. Who are you?" I ask, going to get out of the bed. Mom pushes me back. "My name is Fein. Fein Rosa. I have lived here my whole life and never have I met any other vampires that call Serenity home. It's great to meet you." He says walking into the room and shaking mine and my mother's hand. He was nice, his voice was like caramel. Rich and smooth. He was handsome too. My mom got up off the bed and stood a distance away. "What were you doing in the hospital, Fein?" "School bus crushed me under it. Doctors say it was a miracle that I survived." He chuckled. "The bus tipped over and I caught it trying to save the kids. I was the only one to get hurt." He says picking up the orange off the tray beside my bed. He couldn't be so bad if he was trying to save those people. I stood up against my mother's protests and quickly changed in the small bathroom. I could hear my mom talking to him but I only got bits and pieces."....hurt her...nearly died....couldn't help" My mother was explaining what had happened to me."..Could help....change....bodyguard.....warrior." He was offering his help. I walked out and looked at the both of them. My mother smiled and so did Fein.
