Nayeli Binns

"So when did he say he would be here again?" Stormi asked as she helped me fix my hair. We've been trying to fix it to perfection for at least twenty minutes now.

"He said 6:30," I peeked at the clock to see it was past the time. "Maybe he's stuck in traffic."

"Honey I'm so happy you're going to have fun for once." My mother smiled proudly as she watched me look over my outfit in the mirror.

"Mommy stop you're making it a big deal when it's not."

"It is!" She beamed causing Stormi to laugh. "I'm telling you Stormi, she never gets out of the house. Never, I'm glad for once she isn't stressing over poor ole me."

"Are you sure you're going to be okay with staying with her because I can cancel." I turn to Stormi.

"Don't even try it, my new daughter is going to be here taking care of me ain't that right Stormi?"

"Sure is big mama" Stormi smiled "I keep on forgetting to ask but how does Mr. Nixon feel about his brother taking you out?"

"How should he feel?"

"Nayeli please don't tell me you're so slow you don't realize he has a little thing for you," Stormi said in a monotonous voice.

"Yeah, little which means it doesn't last long plus what would he want from a poor girl like me?" I thought back to their last conversation.

"You're being a hypocrite sweetie." My mother spoke up.

"How am I being a hypocrite?" I wanted to roll my eyes but decided not to.

"You are about to go out with Alexander's brother, how far is he from his brother?"

"We had a little disagreement the last time we spoke and we haven't communicated since then. He looks like he doesn't even care so why should I? I am perfectly fine without his friendship." I chose not to answer her question.

I continued to finish getting ready and before I knew it Anthony was outside beeping his horn. I was taken back by his method, I expected he would have been a gentleman like his brother and knocked on the door.

"Wow. Alexander would never. Period." She said jokingly but I was not in the mood for it.

"I'm outside." That's the first thing he said as soon as he answered his phone.

"I can see that," I said watching his vehicle through my window.

"Then why aren't you coming out then? I thought you said you'll be ready by now."

"The decent thing to do is knocking on my door, then maybe escorting me to your car."

"Oh." he paused. "I'm coming out."

I waited until I heard him knocking before plastering a smile on my face and swinging the door open, the last thing I expected was him looking around in disgust. I assumed it was the condition of my neighborhood, I'll let it pass he's probably never been somewhere like this before.

"I thought you were ready?" He forced a smile, I knew he forced it because he wasn't doing a good job.

"I am." I frowned looking at him weirdly.

"Oh, that's what you're wearing?"

"Yeah is something wrong with it?" I ran my hands over my outfit thinking that I should've gone with the black dress like I wanted to. My mother kept reminding me it's not a funeral but a dinner.
