Skylar’s POV

I woke up feeling strange, stranger than normal, since the rejection by my mate, I felt empty and hollow like a part of me was missing, it had felt like this ever since the rejection from my mate, but somehow today I felt empty but not broken. I used to be bitter, and didn’t want to form connections or relationships with anyone. Leaving my old pack was bittersweet because I left behind my family and the people I grew up with, I wasn’t running away from a tortured background.

I just knew that if I stayed I would have done something regrettable and caused a bigger rift than necessary in my family. My parents were the former Alpha couple and my brother was the current Alpha, knowing that I wouldn’t get the Alpha position is what tipped the scale for my mate and that is why she forced the rejection, so I had Alpha blood in my system a negative for most packs when considering taking you in, it could be assumed that you might fight to usurp the current Alpha, or sever the pack.

Michael gave me a chance and for that I would be forever grateful he gave me a home and through him I met Kadie she is the best thing that ever happened to me, she made me see that the rejection from my mate was no fault of my own, fate just happened to screw me over, she didn’t deserve me. When I first met Kadie I was distrustful of her rogues tend to manipulate and cause fractions and destruction wherever they go, hearing her story and all that she had to go through made me angry and my wolf felt protective.

Over the years our friendship grew and so did my feelings for her, but I never acted upon them, she is my best friend and what we have is too special to ruin, especially if she doesn’t feel the same way. Her mate was an arse and he didn’t deserve her. I was kind of pissed at the twins they thought it would be funny to extend the prank they were playing to include me, I managed to save face around the other pack only because I knew that it would take them ages to come to their senses, I ended up jumping out the window and making my way to the training area, I went through the training with the men of the pack demonstrating defence techniques and what they appeared to be doing wrong.

They weren’t completely hopeless, I got the feeling that they needed a better leader, a pack with no guidance, is a lost one and that is what I was seeing, but it wasn’t my concern, I just had to make sure they could defend themselves. All throughout the training my wolf seemed to be pacing inside, he seemed out of sorts and on edge, I had no reason why, I went to find Michael and told him what was happening, he told me to go relax and lie down, it might calm my wolf enough for me to understand what had him on edge.

I ended up falling asleep and by the time I roused myself ,my wolf seemed to have calmed down, the guys mind linked me, to  say that everyone was going out tonight and to meet them downstairs when I was ready. In the car the guys seemed excited, we hadn’t really been out for a while and really let loose which was kind of rare for the twins, being at this pack seemed to have us completely on edge, and our protective senses were on high alert around Kadie, although based on what we had seen so far she seemed to be doing a good job.

“At least that douche won’t be here tonight to ruin Kadie’s fun, I hear he is still with the pack doctor” Sonny said, “who I asked” I was confused “ Dean” he looked over at me and then realisation must have hit him “ oh, dude you missed it, the prick challenged Kadie at training and she almost annihilated him, to top it all off he has shifted and she was in human form, I said it before and I will say it again, that girl is freakishly strong for her size” everyone else laughed, but I was struggling to control my wolf he was going mental trying to shift and go hunt down that son of a bitch, as if understanding what was going on, the guys stopped laughing and Michael pulled over, trying to get me to calm down, it took longer than normal, he just wouldn’t settle down, he was out for blood, it was only when I told him we should go see Kadie, and make sure that he was alright that I managed to reign him back in.
