Chapter 13

Hey guy's I decided the mating was going to be next chapter, didn't want to rush it, and figured some things needed to take beforehand, before the direction of the story could shift.

Over the next couple of days my mind felt consumed with all the things that had to get done, on top of all the training that had to be done, I still needed to do research on the supposed prophecy and find a solution to the problems in the pack. I managed to kill two birds with one stone, and the answer came about through one of the younger pack members.

I happened to be taking a walk through the pack grounds when I came across, a young group of kids enraptured by their lesson that was being taught by one of the pack elders, they were being taught about the pack hierarchy and the different members of the werewolf community, I took a seat not too near so as to distract, but not so far that I couldn’t hear what was being said.

“Within a pack there is an Alpha and his second in command, known as the Beta. When the Alpha finds his mate the Luna of the pack is then considered a second authority as is classed as being just above the Beta position, you have a third in command, and then the head enforcer and the pack warriors followed by the rest of the pack.  A wolf becomes Alpha through birth right or through the win of a challenge, it is very rare that an Alpha male loses to a wolf not Alpha born, but it is not impossible, the Alpha blood within a wolf makes them stronger, faster and more dominant than normal wolves, which is why not just anyone can become an Alpha, the gene has to be instilled within otherwise challenges will constantly be issued”

“is there anyone higher up than an Alpha” one of the pups asked, “as I said before the Alpha has the deciding word once a command has been issued it must be carried out on impulse, the council however are put into place to govern the werewolf community and make sure that order is kept, their word must be followed and only the most serious of cases are brought to them.”

“What kind of cases” the same pup asked, I liked him he seemed inquisitive but unlike most kids who can sometimes ask annoying and obvious questions, his seemed thought out and insightful.

“Well if an Alpha isn’t acting in the best interest of his pack then he is brought before the council to answer for his actions and he can be issued either a warning, or fall under investigation for a probationary period, in more extreme cases he can be stripped of his title and another Alpha will be granted his status.  The council also step in if there is a rogue situation that spirals out of control and cannot be handled immediately, the council travels to the strongest pack’s and issues commands to the pack warriors in an effort to help out weaker packs, so that they are able to fend for themselves, which is what happened with our pack” I thought about what she was telling the children and it seemed like I was receiving an education just like them.

“How long have the council been around” you have to give props to that kid he was asking all the questions that everyone wanted to know, this was definitely one to watch out for, he sure would be something when he grew up.

“The council were formed sometime after the division of the packs. When the werewolves first came about there was no pack hierarchy instead we had a monarchy with a king and queen governing over us as one entity. It worked for the first couple of centuries but there was a problem with that scenario, although the king was an Alpha in his own right, more and more Alpha males were being born, an Alpha tends to balk at authority and doesn’t like to be commanded by others of a lesser rank, so you can imagine that the commands the king was issuing had no effect on some of the wolves, and then rifts and disagreements broke out into the community, a fight for dominance was declared at every opportunity and the numbers of the wolves were diminishing. The King seeing this decided that the community needed to be broken up and territories established so that there was no Alpha wolves within a close proximity of one another, which is how we came to know the way of living that we live today, the reign of the King and Queen came to an end, and there was no higher station than that of an Alpha. After some time a governing body needed to be established in order to deal with conflicts that arose from pack disagreements, descendants of the original werewolves, were chosen to head up the council, as they had the purest bloodlines and knowledge of our kind, all events have been documented and stored in the councils archives as a record of history.”
