There wasn’t much to be discussed after the meeting with the Elders, and Mikey reminded me that we still had the pack travelling down, so we all launched ourselves into preparing for their arrival, the packhouse was big enough to house all the unmated wolves in his pack, as well as some mated couples, Kade let us know that there was also some uninhabited cabins surrounding us that the pack could make use of, so we sent orders for those to be cleaned out and made useful. Speaking of my brother I hadn’t spoken to him since the day I left on my retreat with Sky and I wondered how he was getting on with his mate, I remembered he tried to talk to me the other day, and caught his attention, indicating I wanted to go for a walk, a look of surprise flitted across his face, normally it was him that initiated contact, but what can I say he was trying and I was cutting him some slack, I figured I was the only person he let on about his problems with his mate, his relationship with Dean was pretty non-existent except when it came to his Beta duties.

We walked to our clearing, it was getting to be a habit we picked up, the memories we once shared here trickled back in, and I smiled in remembrance, they weren’t all bad times, and like I said, before the death of my parents the bond between me and my brother was unbreakable, shaking my head in an effort to dismiss those morbid thoughts,  I took a good look at Kade, and surprisingly he looked a lot better than he did before, he seemed to be putting on weight and he had a happy glint to his eye, I knew that he must be making progress because only the love of a mate can put a smile like that on someone’s face without provocation.

“So how are things with you and Sophie? And hey did you realise we had the same name?” I asked he blushed slightly at my questions, “things are going well, she agreed to let me mark her, she apologised for not giving me a chance and she said we could try to make a go of our mating, but we would be taking things slow, I didn’t mind just as long as she was willing to give me a chance at proving myself to her, in fact it was you that convinced her.” I looked at him in disbelief

“Me? I haven’t even met her yet how could it have been me, I didn’t want her to find out about what had happened to you before I had a chance to tell her, her family joined our pack after you left so she had no idea of what had happened to you, I explained everything and the part I played and mentioned that part of me thinks that subconsciously I feel that the reason you share the same name is a sign of the Moon Goddess that I am being given a second chance, and if I can in time make her come around, that there might be some hope for me and you” he looked at me shyly a blush tinting his cheeks, but he had a determined look in his eye.

I was quiet for a while letting what he had said sink in, I wasn’t ready to fall over myself with long lost sibling adoration, but I noticed that he was sorry and I saw the type of man he had become and the way he performed is Beta duties he had changed for the better. “I’m willing to try and put things behind us Kade, like I said we are going to take things slow, but I like the person you have become and I like the thought of you being in my life, you have to understand that my pack are my family now, and you have to win them over if you want to be a part of it, if it’s any consolation I would say your nearly there they have a lot of respect for the way you carry yourself as a Beta, they will give you grief over everything that has happened but that will die down in time, when they see that you’re really serious”

He had an eager look on his face, “I will do anything I can to show you all that I have changed, you’ve grown up without me Kades” a serious look on his face, “ I know nothing I say or do will take back what has happened, but I want to be the brother I should have been from now on,” I smiled at him kissing his cheek before asking him to fill me in on his mate, we got lost in ourselves that afternoon and it was a quiet reflection on the childhood I once knew.
